Mother’s Day 2014

I’m only a *little* behind on the blog! :) I’ll start with our Mother’s Day recap, and sometime soon, hopefully I’ll get around to our Gatlinburg trip and Brooklyn’s 15 month update…

Brooklyn has grown just a “little” since last year on Mother’s Day!

So, we spent part of Mother’s Day weekend with my parents in Trussville. I had to work a 12 hour shift on Friday, so we didn’t leave town until Saturday morning. We were pretty lazy on Saturday and just relaxed for most of the day. It was nice! Brooklyn enjoyed being at Gramps’ and Rae Rae’s house, as usual! On Sunday after church, we had lunch with the family. Jenn and Chandler came over, as well as Gran, Aunt Patty, Christy, and Audrey. Mom shouldn’t have been cooking, but she doesn’t ever take a day off! I think that’s the life of a mom. Lunch was delicious, and it was great to see everyone. Before we left, Gran, Mom, and I opened cards and gifts, and then Mom and I went upstairs to help Jenn try on her wedding dress with her shoes and necklace. She looked so pretty! Her wedding is less than 2 months away now. I can’t believe it!

We raced home on Sunday afternoon with just a few minutes to spare before church that evening. After church, Travis’s family (Cheryl, Alisha, Tyler, and Melissa–we were missing Emily!) all came over to our house. We grilled burgers and had fruit and salad on the side. Travis is getting to be a grill master these days! Those burgers were yummy :) It was great to spend some time with both of our moms on Mother’s Day this year. We are so blessed to have such great moms!

This was my second Mother’s Day, and I feel like I’ve learned so much since this time last year. I just read over my post from last Mother’s Day, and it made me remember what it was like during the first few months of Brooklyn’s life. I think I’ve figured out that each stage is different and has its own challenges. One isn’t necessarily easier than another; it’s just different. The past 15 months have been a learning process, that’s for sure! Brooklyn is getting more fun each day, but she is also into EVERYTHING and is trying to be more and more independent, which is a definitely a test of my patience :) I sure do love being her mom though, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Thank you, God, for such a blessing!
