Brooklyn friends work

Laura’s Baby Shower

One of my best friends at work, Laura, is pregnant with her first baby. Little Charlie is due on June 23rd. I’m so excited for Laura and her husband, Clayton! She and I are “birthday buddies” at work, which means we are responsible for celebrating birthdays and other big events in each other’s lives. She planned my baby shower at work last year for Brooklyn, and this week it was my turn to return the favor.

Wednesday was the day we’d decided to have the shower, and it was at the hospital during lunch. It worked out perfectly because some of the ladies from church planned a playdate for all the babies and toddlers for that same day and time. I couldn’t believe how well it worked out! I was able to drop Brooklyn off at the park, go to the hospital for the shower, and get back just in time to pick her up afterward. I could’ve taken Brooklyn with me, but it was much easier (and probably more fun for her) to just go to the park with her “friends” instead!

Laura and I have been friends since we met in Tuscaloosa during college. She was my best friend during nursing school! After graduation, we started working at the hospital but in different departments. Eventually, Laura made her way to pre-op though, and it’s been great working with her since then!

For the food, everyone pitched in and brought a dish. It was really helpful that I didn’t have to make everything and bring it with me!

I brought egg salad sandwiches, cheddar bacon ranch pull-apart bread, and cupcakes!

Close-up picture of the cupcakes…they were chocolate with cream cheese icing. I think this might be my go-to cream cheese icing recipe. It wasn’t too sweet or rich like some are!

The seat of honor! Katey, one of the nurses we work with, made that blue “bow” out of surgical hats…haha! She’s so creative!

Several of us from work pitched in to buy Laura a group gift, and she also got smaller gifts from several people individually. Our big group gift was 2 car seat bases and a gift basket with a bunch of smaller stuff off Laura’s Target registry (like bibs, burp cloths, towels, washcloths, etc.). Everyone was so generous, and I was excited that we could give her such a great gift.

During the shower, everyone gave Laura some “amazing advice” and filled out their predictions about Charlie’s height, weight, and date/time of birth.

Katey also made centerpieces for the tables out of towels. Isn’t that elephant cute?? She should work for a cruise line! :)

Some pretty awesome pre-op nurses!

The shower was a lot of fun, and Laura got some great gifts. When it was time to leave, I hurried to pack up my car and get back to pick up Brooklyn. Brooklyn was one of the first kids to be dropped off and the last one to be picked up, so she was there for 4 hours outside! Apparently, she was very well behaved and played hard the whole time. I was so proud of her! She is still taking 2 naps a day, but that day she missed her morning nap. I was afraid she might be so tired that she was in a bad mood, but she did great the whole time. She was definitely hot, sweaty, and worn out by the time I picked her up though!! She was so tired that she was dead asleep by the time we got back home, which was less than a 5 minute drive…haha :)

I was able to carry her into the house, CHANGE HER DIAPER, and lay her in the crib without waking her up. That’s a testament to how tired she must have been. I’ve never changed her diaper while she was asleep before!!

That’s one tired little girl!

I also got the sweetest Mother’s Day card from Miss B that she made at the park. Her handprint is on the front…

…and the sweetest scribbles are on the inside! That card just made my day!!

It was a great day overall!
