Just Me and B

Well, today is the first day that Brooklyn and I have spent at home by ourselves, and so far we’ve survived! Travis went back to work Thursday, but Mom was here to help out again at the end of last week. She went home on Friday night, so now it’s really just the two of us during the days this week.

As of 4 PM, I’ve managed to: feed both of us (pretty important!), bathe Brooklyn, take a shower, brush my teeth, unload and load the dishwasher, and get two loads of laundry started. Yipee! It’s amazing how good you feel when you lower your expectations! If they’d been this low pre-baby, I think I would have felt like superwoman every day :)

Here are some cute pictures of B on our first day home alone:

Her cord came off at the pediatrician’s office last Tuesday, so we’ve been able to give her “real” baths in her bathtub since then. So far, she hasn’t minded them! I think she likes the feeling of the warm water.

Speaking of going to the pediatrician, her 2 week check up went great last week! She weighed 7 lbs 5.5 oz, which means she’d gained 10.5 oz in 8 days. I think we’ve got a good eater on our hands :) She was 20 3/4 inches long. She’s still only in the 25th percentile for her weight, but she’s in the 75th percentile for height. Long and lean, like her daddy I guess!

We had a little scare last week when we got a letter in the mail from the Alabama Department of Public Health. It said that Brooklyn either failed or had inconclusive results on her hearing screening when she was in the hospital. But, we were told right after the screening that she’d passed and she could “hear really well”. Had the girl at the hospital told us wrong, or was ADPH wrong? Well, by the time we checked our mail, everyone we tried to call was already closed for the day. Go figure. I think being a mom makes me worry even more than normal (I need to work on that), so of course I was panicking all evening that Brooklyn was deaf. That must be the reason that she sleeps so good through loud noises…she can’t hear them! Travis was the reasonable one….he’s much more level headed than I am. Plus, he works for the government, so he knows not to trust anything from a government office. True story because the next morning, I talked to a girl at the ADPH who confirmed that it was a data entry error and Brooklyn had passed the screening like we’d thought. Note to self: Don’t panic next time something like that happens.

We’ve taken Brooklyn to church with us several times now, and she’s done really well so far. Each time, she’s slept most of the time and other than a few “grunts” and “squeaks”, she’s hardly made a peep. I’m sure that will change, but we’re enjoying it for now.

Ready for my first time at church!

Just in the past few days, Brooklyn has started to be a little more awake overall. For the first couple of weeks, she slept pretty much around the clock unless she was eating. Now, she’s decided that she likes to be awake when Mommy and Daddy want to go to bed. Whoops! I think she’s may have her days and nights mixed up, but I can’t seem to keep her awake very well during the day. She wouldn’t sleep in her crib at all last night, so I’m hoping for a better night tonight.

Doesn’t Gabby look enormous next to Brooklyn? And she’s so small compared to Felix! Felix doesn’t get close enough to B though for me to photograph :) I think it’s going to take him months to work up the courage. Gabby will sniff Brooklyn, but only for a few seconds every now and then. Other than that, she keeps her distance too. I would say the kitties are adjusting pretty well so far. They don’t seem too mad at us, and hopefully they aren’t feeling too neglected :)

Well, that’s about it for this update. If I didn’t have cute pictures of Brooklyn to share, I wouldn’t feel like my blog was worth reading right now. Most of you probably don’t feel accomplished when you shower and brush your teeth. Oh well! :) Who knows what I’ll get done tomorrow!!

Things will get easier every week. Don’t get discouraged. Enjoy her. It’s like a blink of the eye, and they seem all grown up!!! Love you and Travis and my sweet Brooklyn. Y’all are awesome parents.

Sounds like you are doing well. Booklyn even looks like she is gaining. I enjoy your blog. Maybe you will be able to come for lunch Sunday and I will get to see her again too. Love to you allBaugay

You are bringing back lots of memories, Erin. Your mom is right. Enjoy. She will be going out on dates before you know it! LOL but if you want to see what worrying is picture that! Love you 3!

Before we even left the hospital, Travis was saying things like “I’m not ready to let her go off and get married yet.” Definitely made me cry!! I’m blaming it on the lack of sleep and crazy hormones :) But, I don’t want to think about her even dating at this point!! I’m sure I’ll be a wreck :)

It is so funny how our ideas of productive days change during different stages in life… When I read all that you had accomplished yesterday by 4pm, I thought, “Wow!! She’s good!!” Hahah! You are doing an awesome job! On top of all that, you’re still healing from the c-section! Love seeing the pictures of your sweet girl!

Haha…thanks Bonnie! That makes me feel better. It’s just going to take some time to get used to this new “pace” I guess.
