Brooklyn’s First Real Haircut and Other Random Pics

While we were in Trussville last weekend, I decided to go get a haircut and get Brooklyn’s hair cut too. Mom came along for moral support since I wasn’t sure how it would go. We didn’t have to wait long, and we decided to have Brooklyn go first. It actually went really well overall! The only time she really got upset was when the stylist tried to put the cape around her. Ha! She did NOT want to wear that thing. So, we just did without it and let hair get all over her clothes. No big deal! She really didn’t even squirm too much either…I was surprised about that! I think I’d been dreading it and thinking it would go a lot worse than it actually did. If she does that great every time, it would be amazing!

As long as she can suck her thumb, she’s good!

All done!

Here’s a side shot from later that day. Her curls looked so much better with some layers in her hair! :)

Brooklyn named my dad while we were in town. That was probably the biggest development of the weekend. He is now “Paw” (said with the biggest southern drawl ever). “PAAAWWWWWW.” He is the first grandparent that she has named by herself. (Cici and Rae Rae chose their own names, and she uses those).

Of course, she had to “wing” while we were in town!

…and blow “bubbelf!!”

The weather has been great for playing outside lately! This was one afternoon last week. I actually sat on the patio and read a magazine while Brooklyn played. It was fabulous!

It’s hard work to carry two balls at one time :)

Before I forget, here is my “14 week” picture taken yesterday afternoon. No big developments this week that I can think of. Oh, I’m officially putting away my regular jeans I think. It’s sad that it’s happening this early, but it’s just reality I guess! Maternity jeans are so much more comfortable right now :)

Last Friday, Brooklyn went over the Hesters’ house for a couple of hours while Travis went car shopping with Cheryl (and I was at work). Melissa sent me a few pictures of the fun Brooklyn had while she was there. Here is Brady playing with Brooklyn (this one can go in their wedding slideshow in about 25 years…hehe!).

First time playing with a lightsaber! Obviously, we don’t have boy toys at our house :)

Thanks, Melissa, for letting her come over and play for a little while! :)

This morning, we checked out another park we’d never been to before: Gilwood Park off Wall Triana. It’s a privately owned park built to honor those who died in the April 2011 tornadoes. It’s not very big, but Brooklyn still had fun! We had the place to ourselves the whole time :)

A very friendly kitty cat came right up to us when we first arrived and followed us everywhere. Of course, Brooklyn gave her lots of love and attention!

The park has lots of benches and swings, which is really nice. It also has a big pavilion with tables and rocking chairs. It would be a great place to have a birthday party!

Time to slide!

She enjoyed walking over this “bridge” about 5 or 6 times in a row. Anything that looks like stairs…she loves it!

She has also become obsessed with rocks lately. She wants to throw them everywhere, so we had to leave not long after I took this picture because she wouldn’t stop throwing them. Oh well!

Other Brooklyn notes:

*We were at Michael’s earlier this week, and Brooklyn was in a very friendly mood. She is usually kind of shy when strangers speak to her or give her attention. Not that day! She was talking to random shoppers who weren’t even paying her any attention. She waved at one lady and said “Hey!!”. Then she told her “Bye!!” a few seconds later. She got lots of laughs from other shoppers. It was pretty funny.

*Brooklyn slept until 8 AM this morning! It was glorious! Her usual wake up time is between 6:30 and 7 AM, no matter what time she goes to bed. So, 8 AM is equivalent to “sleeping in” at our house!

*Our current battles are: throwing sippy cups and food off the high chair tray and slapping Mommy in the face. Yesterday, she slapped me in the face 3 times! Seriously! I don’t think she was mad at me for anything. She wasn’t in a bad mood. She was just doing it to see what my response would be. Of course, she got in trouble each time, but it didn’t seem to deter her from doing it again. Same thing with throwing things off her tray. She knows she will get a spanking if she does it, but she looks right at me and does it anyway. Argh. How many times will it take before she just gives it up?? :)

*She has graduated from saying “no” to saying “nope”. It’s pretty funny! She doesn’t say “yes” to any questions, so anytime we ask her a yes/no question, the answer is now “nope”. A.K.A. If I say…”Don’t do that again! Do you understand??”….the response she gives is “Nope!”. I just have to shake my head and try not to laugh sometimes :)

*I ordered her the cutest Christmas dress off Zulily recently, and it just came in the mail yesterday. I CANNOT WAIT for her to wear it. It was a splurge at about $25, but it is Jelly the Pug (a really expensive brand), and I’m hoping I can resell it later and get most of my money back. Regular price for the dress was like $60, so it was a good deal for that brand.

*After her bath, Brooklyn loves to sit and watch the water go down the drain in the tub. It is apparently very fascinating. We’ve been doing it every night lately for about a week. She will usually say “All dawn!” (all gone) as it’s draining. Sometimes she will also say “Bye bye wa-wa.” It’s pretty funny what a toddler considers entertainment, but I’ll take it! :)

That’s all I can think of for now! Hope you’re having a great week! :)
