Savannah: 10 Months Old

*It’s a good thing that February had 29 days this year; otherwise Savannah would have had to skip straight from being 9 months to 11 months old ;) This has been a good month overall. Things are definitely getting easier with Miss Savannah!

According to our scale at home (which isn’t extremely accurate), Savannah weighs about 18.5 pounds right now. She won’t go back to the doctor until she is 12 months old, so it will just be a guessing game until then :) I would be surprised if she’s gained a whole pound this month, but who knows with all the food she consumes on a daily basis! More on that in a minute. Savannah is nursing 4 times a day, and it is still going well. She has been doing this for a while, but she loves to grab and pull on her hair while she nurses. It’s really cute! She drinks well from a bottle, but the only time Travis tried to give her pumped milk in a sippy cup, she refused it. Hopefully, she will transition to drinking cow’s milk from a sippy cup when she turns 1 at least.

As far as food goes, Savannah LOVES to eat. That girl can put away some food! She almost always cleans her plate, even when we keep giving her more food. The only food I have found so far that she doesn’t really like is strawberries. If that doesn’t change, Brooklyn will be happy to eat Savannah’s portion of them! ;) I pretty much stopped keeping up with what new foods Savannah has tried this month. She is basically eating just table foods at her meals (and occasionally still baby food purees, although we’ve run out of them now). She can pick up food with her fingers easily, but doesn’t mind being fed from a spoon either (when she’s eating yogurt or baby food). I’m pretty sure she out-eats Brooklyn at many meals; a few nights ago, she ate a toddler plate full of meatloaf and sweet potatoes and probably would have eaten more if we’d given it to her. I can’t really tell that she has any “favorite” foods; she likes them all! She has pretty much grown out of spitting up; she still spits up about once or twice a day, which is much better than it used to be. However, I’ve noticed that yogurt tends to make her spit up more than other foods do. I’m wondering if she is sensitive to dairy products. Regardless, she likes to eat it just as much as other foods! :)

I guess I didn’t jinx us last month because Savannah is still sleeping well at night. So thankful!! She usually goes to bed around 8 PM and will generally sleep until around 7 AM. Sometimes, she wakes up earlier than that, and depending on how early it is, we may or may not bring her into our bed to sleep until a more reasonable hour :) But, she very rarely cries out in the middle of the night anymore. (To be honest, Brooklyn wakes up more often in the night now than Savannah does…argh). But, we really can’t complain…especially compared to Savannah’s old sleeping habits! *Note – after I typed this Monday night, she’s woken up in the middle of the night crying every night since then (and today is Thursday). Argh!! Maybe it’s a new tooth?

Savannah is taking about 2 naps per day right now. They are generally around 9 or 9:30 AM and 2 or 2:30 PM. On a good day, her naps last about 1.5 hours (or longer), but she will still “cat nap” on occasion and wake up after only 45 or 50 minutes. I’m not complaining though! Naps have drastically improved over the past couple of months. She usually doesn’t cry when I lay her down in the crib; she just puts her arms up by her head, sucks her paci, and goes right to sleep.

Savannah is getting faster and faster at crawling each day. She can get across the room before I even notice, and her curiosity has led her to check out all sorts of things that we’d rather her not ;) One of her favorite “games” to play with Brooklyn is crawling after her through the kitchen and dining room like she’s chasing her. She hoots and screeches and has a big time with that. The biggest development this month is that she can now pull up to her feet pretty easily. This started happening regularly about 1.5 weeks ago, and it’s amazing how much better at it she’s gotten just since then. She pulls up on everything now, and I think she enjoys standing up and having a higher view of things. She hasn’t started cruising yet, although the other night she rotated while standing up (she was holding on to the couch, and she turned and grabbed hold of the coffee table without falling down). I’m sure at the rate she’s going, she’ll be cruising (and walking) in no time! She never really struggled with how to get down from a standing position. Most of the time, she just lets go of whatever she’s holding onto and plops down on her bottom. But over the past couple of days, she’s gotten better at slowly lowering herself to the floor from a standing position. I guess either way works!

I can stand up!

And I can plop down too!

Savannah is getting better at entertaining herself with toys and other things around the house instead of constantly wanting to be held. She will still cry more often than not when I walk out of her sight, so I usually try to sneak out when she’s distracted ;) She has been pretty happy this month, but we have discovered that she DOES have a pretty big temper if you take something away from her or do something she doesn’t like. She will arch her back, kick, and cry–whew! I’m wondering if she’s already picking up on how Big Sister acts sometimes ;) She has recently figured out how to open cabinet doors by herself, and the Tupperware cabinet is her favorite, of course! (Brooklyn loved it too at that age!). She also loves to eat carpet and cat food and is really interested in what’s inside the laundry room, pantry, toilet, and trashcans right now. If I turn my back for too long, there’s no telling what’s she’s gotten into!

Savannah is babbling more and more each week, and she still loves to make spitting sounds with her tongue too. Of course, Brooklyn thinks it’s hilarious, and they love to “spit” back and forth at each other. Savannah will say “ma ma ma ma”, but I’m not sure it means “momma” yet. Who knows! She also says something that sounds like “mun mun” at the end of the prayer, so I think that might be her official first word: “amen!” Either that, or she’s saying “yum yum”, as in “Get me some food right now!” :) She also learned how to smack her lips together to make a popping sound; that was a few weeks ago, but she’s not really doing it as much this week. I guess she’s moved on to something else now :)

Savannah is finally starting to get interested in reading books. She likes to flip the pages at least! And, if it’s a short book, she may or may not pay attention through the whole thing. Books also make good chewing toys, according to her :) She is also really interested in the cats now, especially Gabby who comes much closer than Felix does. She loves to try to touch her and “pet” her, and the other day I caught her trying to brush Gabby with one of our combs. I guess she knows what a comb is for!

Likes: clapping when certain songs come on, taking baths, EATING, chasing Brooklyn around, putting everything in her mouth, swinging on the swing set, being with Mommy, “petting” Gabby

Dislikes: when Mommy walks out of the room, being up past her bedtime, running out of food on her tray, getting out of the bath tub, getting dressed and undressed, being told “no” or getting something taken away

Savannah is still wearing mostly 12 month clothes, although she still fits into some 9 month stuff too. I haven’t tried anything bigger than 12 months on her yet because I’m pretty sure it would be too big. She is also still wearing size 3 diapers. I think her feet have grown a little, but she can still wear size 2 shoes. And her hair is ever-so-slowly getting a little longer, I think. She currently has another case of “cradle cap”, which she dealt with a few months ago. I’m hoping that using some Head and Shoulders shampoo will fix it like last time, so we’ll see :) She still just has the two teeth on the bottom–for now, at least!

Savannah, it’s hard to believe that you will be a year old so soon! These 10 months have gone by even faster than they did with Brooklyn; I guess because I don’t have as much time to sit back and process it all. Here’s to another great month ahead of us! :)
