Brooklyn family Father's Day lake Savannah

Playing Catch Up

If I don’t recap the last several weeks, I’m afraid it will all be forgotten before long, so here goes nothing:

We went to Trussville for Father’s Day weekend, and we enjoyed that. This was the first weekend that we started putting Savannah in the crib at night and for some naps, so she cried a good bit that weekend, but thankfully that was the worst of it. On the day before Father’s Day we went to Greenbriar, so Gran, Dadaw, and Betty could meet Savannah for the first time. And, of course, Brooklyn loved being at Paw and Rae Rae’s house…..so much that she woke up before 6 AM both mornings. Haha!

Neither girl was much in the mood for pictures! :)

I took a picture of Savannah napping in her car seat just to prove that it actually happened. She will fall asleep in the car on occasion, but almost never stays asleep once the car stops moving. This time, she fell asleep on the way back to Paw and Rae Rae’s house after church and slept for a couple of hours straight. It was so nice!

Brooklyn enjoyed taking baths in Rae Rae’s big bathtub!

So sweet!

Dadaw also got to see Savannah for the first time on Father’s Day weekend. We didn’t catch it on camera, but he gave her a really big smile when he first saw her!

And, of course, Betty (Dadaw’s sitter) wanted to hold Savannah for the first time too. I love this picture! Betty is like part of our family now after so many years :)

So, we had a great Father’s Day weekend! Brooklyn and Savannah are very blessed to have such a great daddy. He does so much to take care of our family, and I appreciate him so much!

Daddy’s not afraid to play “castles” with Brooklyn :)

And, here are some other non-Father’s Day weekend pictures that I’ve taken over the past few weeks:

I hate that this picture is blurry, but this is Brooklyn’s first crush (Douglas) walking her to the car after church…haha :) She’s lucky that Britni doesn’t mind!

Building a really tall tower

This is how Brooklyn watches movies…she’s too busy to sit down!

A recent playdate at Jessica’s house–at least I caught them all in the same picture! Brooklyn is in between Baker and Everett in age, and Savannah is the youngest (obviously)!

I’m loving all of these sweet smiles we’re getting these days!

On a few occasions, I’ve been fortunate enough to get both girls to nap in their rooms at the same time. It’s an awesome feeling to have a few minutes to myself in the afternoon!

This is how excited Savannah was to go to her 2 month checkup and get 3 shots (plus an oral vaccine). Poor thing cried really hard and turned bright red she was so mad. Luckily, a little mommy milk helped her calm down afterward :)

She ran a fever for a couple of days afterward and seemed to want to sleep more than usual, but was back to her normal self before too long!

About 1.5 weeks ago, I took both girls grocery shopping with me for the first time. I had to document it because it was a very successful outing! No crying, whining, or tantrums the whole time!

Another playdate at Jessica’s house – Brooklyn, Baker, and Landon were checking out Baker’s new inflatable pool

We got a snow cone at Tropical Sno last Thursday, and Brooklyn thought it was great. She thanked Daddy for the “snowman” as we were leaving :)

We went to the lake for the 4th of July. It was a rainy couple of days! We still enjoyed just getting away and not doing a whole lot. We didn’t get in the lake, but we did go on a pontoon ride. We also ate lots of good food, of course!

We made homemade peach ice cream…yum! Mom accidentally bought regular salt instead of rock salt, but we were able to make it work anyway :)

Aunt Jenn and Brooklyn had fun swinging together when the rain stopped…

Paw and Savannah!

We went to the fireworks show at Duncan Bridge on Friday night. Brooklyn was a little scared at first, but she was fine once she realized that they weren’t going to hurt her :)

She sat next to Daddy for the end of the fireworks show. (Savannah was asleep in the Boba the whole time. I was surprised she slept through it!)

Ready for her first pontoon ride!

20150704_141513

Brooklyn was more excited than she appears :)

Setting sail with Paw and Rae Rae!

It didn’t take long until she passed out for a nap :)

This one took a short cat nap during the boat ride too!

She “talked” to Paw for a good little while…it was sweet!

Other Notes:

  • Savannah slept through the night for the first time two nights ago! (Of course, it was too good to be true last night…haha). But two nights ago, which happened to be July 4th, she slept from 8:15 PM to 5:15 AM straight!! Go Savannah! It was ironic because the neighbors on both sides of us were shooting off fireworks for a couple of hours right when the girls went to bed. Somehow they both slept great…must have been tired from the lake!
  • A couple of weeks ago, Brooklyn counted for the first time that I can remember! She has known her numbers (up to 10 or 12) for a while now (sometimes she gets them wrong, but she knows them for the most part), but she’s never been able to count something that I could tell. Anyway, we were in the car headed to Jessica’s and she had a toy car with her. She said, “Mickey car has wheels!” So I asked her how many wheels it had. And she said, “One…two…three…four!” Yay, Brooklyn!
  • Brooklyn loves playing with her doctor kit – it has a “step-scope” in it that she uses to listen to your “heart beep”. She also likes to put bandaids on her boo-boos. She loves to give Mommy and Daddy a shot with the medicine syringe. When we say “ouch!”, she will say “Does that hurt?? I give you another one”. She has also given Gabby several shots, which hasn’t gone over too well. Gabby scratched her a couple of times last week, but Brooklyn continues to harrass her anyway…
  • Sometimes when we ask her if she can do something for us, she’ll say, “Oh, sure!” It’s so cute :)
  • I will occasionally catch her reading books to herself. Of course, I know she isn’t really reading, but she definitely knows the stories pretty well. Sometimes she will say parts of the stories almost word for word like they are written!
  • “Do dens” – means “I want to do it again”. So, she says that a lot when we finish singing a song or reading a book. Let’s do it again, Mommy!
  • I’m not sure if I’ve ever written this one down, but “nulk” is Brooklyn’s word for “milk”. She has always called it “nulk” since she started trying to say the word. She speaks pretty clearly for a 2 year old (in my opinion), so it’s pretty funny that she can’t say the word “milk” right :)
  • Last night, we were reading her Bible story before bed, and it was the story of the Day of Pentecost and the tongues of fire coming upon the apostles. Brooklyn took one look at the picture (which showed little flames of fire on top of their heads) and started singing “Happy birthday” to Daddy. Haha! I guess she thought they looked like human candles???

That’s all I can think of for now! Hope you’re having a great week!
