Abigail Brooklyn Father's Day Savannah

June 2022

June was our first full month of summer break, and it was a good month! We took a family trip to St. Louis, and the girls also did two weeks of swim lessons. I will cover those highlights in separate posts, so this will cover everything else we were up to this month:

The girls all love corn on the cob!

Savannah and Abigail attempted to play chess together on June 2nd after breakfast. They have picked up a little bit from Brooklyn, but I’m not sure they know all the rules :)

We met Emily and her girls at the pool that morning, and they had a fun time swimming together.

Savannah made her bed and arranged all her polar bears neatly on top :)

Nate and Becky recently moved to Madison (yay!), and we had them and Leif over for supper on June 3rd. It was funny to watch the girls interact with a baby his age because it doesn’t happen very often these days.

Mikayla dropped off some art supplies and stuffed animals for the girls, and they were excited to eat breakfast with their new friends the next morning ;)

Doug and Vera had a cookout on June 4th and invited everyone from church. The kids (and many of the adults) love the arcade in their garage!

It’s nice to have big sisters around when you need some help swinging :)

Abigail wore one of my favorite dresses to church on June 5th!

Savannah was looking very patriotic in her red, white, and blue…

Travis turned 36 on June 5th, and we celebrated at Cici’s for lunch. It was a small crowd (just us and her), but I guess that meant more dessert for each of us ;)

Brooklyn and Savannah thought it was great fun to give Daddy 36 birthday spankings and one to grow on…haha

They did make him some sweet birthday cards though!

The next Sunday was June 12th, and it was our turn to host Sunday lunch with Baugay. It worked out nicely because Savannah was invited to Caroline’s birthday party at the pool that afternoon.

Savannah had a great time and enjoyed seeing some of her friends from school for the first time in a couple of weeks.

Cheese!

On June 13th, we went to the library for the American Girl book club meeting. We got there a few minutes early so the girls could pick some new books to check out.

This month’s AG meeting was all about Nanea, who is Hawaiian. The girls made grass skirts and leis and were learning how to do the hula when Abigail and I came to pick them up.

They looked so cute!

Savannah got the best surprise when she saw Mrs. Pride dropping off her own daughter for the book club meeting. Mrs. Pride’s daughter is a year older than Brooklyn. Mrs. Pride actually found Abigail and me in the kids’ area of the library and we chatted for the hour until the girls were finished. Savannah was so excited to see Mrs. Pride!!

The librarian was sweet to give us an extra “grass skirt” for Abigail too :)

We are raising three little readers!

We met Sarah and her girls at the pool on June 16th…

We enjoyed catching up with them and hearing how their summer was going so far.

Brooklyn wanted to help me make macaroni and cheese that night for dinner. It was the Kraft kind in the box, so it wasn’t too hard :)

We met Gigi for brunch at Sunny Street Cafe on June 17th after swim lessons. It was delicious, as usual!

That night we went to Tropical Smoothie Cafe for National Flip Flop Day and got some free smoothies. It was a beautiful night to sit outside and drink them!

June 19th was Father’s Day, and the girls gave Daddy a nice back rub that evening :)

He always tells me not to bother getting him a card for holidays, but I couldn’t resist this one. Travis is always turning the lights off around the house or asking us to, so I imagine he’d do the same if he were a lightning bug :)

On June 20th, we went on a walk/bike ride over to the greenway…

The girls always love to stop at the creek to explore and get their feet wet :)

Gabby turned 11 this month, and Abigail made the sweetest card for her!

Abigail loves to help me in the kitchen and always asks if she can stir whatever I’m making.

Brooklyn built a circuit that played the “happy birthday” song to Gabby as part of her celebration ;)

Savannah wanted to push Abigail in the cart at Publix, but Abigail was making sure she knew the way ;) Very typical of their relationship.

On June 23rd, we did a sister swap with Sarah’s girls. Chloe came to our house for a little while, and Brooklyn went to their house to hang out with Kate and Olive.

Savannah and Chloe were sweet to include Abigail in their activities. They played Buildzi for a while…

played outside…

…and made things out of perler beads. Chloe also brought her Samantha doll over, and we realized they had the same skirt!

Brooklyn was having just as much fun at Kate and Olive’s house!

I think this may have been Brooklyn’s first time to play with a Lite Bright. The girls updated it for summer.

They also made a really cool fort out of a fort-making kit! We’ll have to do a sister swap like this again sometime. It was a success at both houses!

Funny enough, we ran into them again the very next morning at the library. I guess we all thought it would a good day to check out some new books!

It was our weekend to help clean the church building on June 25th. I came out of the bathroom after working in there and found the girls leading each other in songs from the stage :)

I took the girls to Bristol’s birthday party that afternoon. It was a pool party at their grandparents’ house, and they had a really fun time. This inflatable slide was a big hit!

They ate cupcakes on blankets and watched Bristol open her gifts before heading back to the pool to swim some more…

We enjoyed the afternoon!

Abigail wore another one of my favorite outfits to church on June 26th. All three of the girls wore it, and I wanted to make sure I had a picture of Abigail wearing it before it gets too small for her.

Brooklyn and Savannah went to tennis camp at MA during the last week of June. I threw out the idea a couple of months back, thinking that it might be a good way for them to try a new sport without committing to it for an entire season. They both agreed they’d like to give it a try, although Savannah seemed to be the most excited about it before the first day.

We bought the girls a couple of cheap tennis rackets from Walmart, and they hit a tennis ball around on the back patio a few days before camp started to get ready. The first day (June 26th) went well! Savannah was very excited to tell me that she made a new friend named Kennedy :) She also took a fall and skinned up her wrist, elbow, and knee. She had bandaids all over her when I picked her up ;) She won a Gatorade prize for being one of two kids who earned the most points that day for winning different games. She was very excited! Brooklyn had fun too.

That afternoon, we walked over to Sarah’s house to buy some lemonade from their lemonade stand. They even had different flavored syrups to put in the lemonade. It was tasty!

Brooklyn had been secretly working on something in her room for Travis and me for months and finally gave it to us in a gift bag. It was all sorts of papers and artwork about why we should get a dog…haha. When I pulled everything out of the bag, I could see why it took her so long to finish! It was a lot of work to make all of that. Unfortunately, I don’t think we were convinced to get a dog anytime soon, but I admire her persistence at least :)

“To Mommy and Daddy, who are going to get me a dog soon.” :)

We met Mrs. Borys for ice cream at Handel’s on June 28th. They don’t have indoor seating, so we sat on a bench outside. It didn’t take long for our ice cream to start melting everywhere. What was I thinking when I told the girls they could get theirs in a cone? Haha. Thankfully they had a water fountain on the side of the building because baby wipes weren’t getting the sticky off very well at all.

Even if we made a huge mess, it was still great to see Mrs. Borys and catch up with her. She is having her first baby (a girl!) in December, and we are so excited for her.

We are doing an hour of “quiet time” each day this summer, and it has been so good for the girls and for me. I love to see Brooklyn’s creative juices flowing. One day this month, she came out of quiet time with a scooter she’d made and decorated out of paper. The girls have also been reading like crazy this summer. Savannah has turned into a huge reader in the last few weeks. Brooklyn already loved to read, but is continuing to.

Brooklyn lost another tooth on June 29th! She pulled it before tennis camp that morning. This was the first one she’d lost in a while. (I think it’s maybe #9 overall?).

They worked on a different skill each day at tennis camp and played lots of fun games while they were there.

This camp was definitely just an introduction to the game of tennis. They didn’t learn about scoring or really play matches. It was just a bunch of little games that exposed them to different swings and what tennis is about.

By the end of the week, the girls both said they had fun but they liked soccer better. I’m not sure if either of them will try tennis again, but I’m glad they tried it once at least!

During the 4th day of tennis camp on June 30th, Abigail and I went to the pop up fountains at Bridge Street. We were meeting Alisha and her boys there, but we got there a few minutes early. Abigail went ahead and started playing, and I loved watching her expressions as she ran through the fountains. She was having so much fun!

She enjoyed the cousin time too once the boys got there :) We had the place to ourselves most of the time!

Snacks are a must at every outing like this ;)

Notes and Quotes from June 2022:

  • 6/5/22 – Abigail: “Can babies have beards or mustaches?”
  • 6/11/22 – We were talking about how Savannah was only 2 weeks old when Brooklyn swallowed a quarter and had to go to the ER. Abigail asked, “Was I born yet?” Savannah responded, “No, you were negative two!”
  • 6/13/22 – Abigail says “turpoise” instead of turquoise. So cute!
  • 6/13/22 – We went to Chick-fil-a tonight to get some ice cream to celebrate a good first day of swim lessons. We were sitting in a booth when one of Travis’s former co-workers came up and said hello and then sat down in the booth right behind us. Travis introduced us to him, but I could tell he couldn’t remember the guy’s name. It was someone he didn’t work closely with and hadn’t seen much of in several years. After he and his wife sat down behind us, Savannah asked, “Do you know him, Daddy?” And Travis told him that it was one of his co-workers. Then she asked, “Do you know his name?” He said, “Yes.” Savannah asked loudly “Well, what is it?” She asked several times…haha. I was trying not to laugh and trying to change the subject at the same time. She just didn’t understand why he wouldn’t tell her the guy’s name. Finally he had to tell her that he couldn’t remember it at the moment. He finally remembered it when we got to the car as we left…haha. We got a big laugh out of that as we were driving home! She was completely oblivious to the fact that the guy could probably hear all of her questions.
  • 6/25/22 – We were talking about the upcoming fall soccer season with Rae Rae on FaceTime, and we were discussing the differences in the size of the goals for different age groups. Rae Rae said, “And Abigail, I guess you’ll be using a little goal.” Abigail replied, “That would be so stinky of the coach!”
  • 6/27/22 – Abigail was planning a pretend birthday party for herself, and she invited me to come. She asked, “Can you make me a present? But make it a good present…not an old present or a yucky present or a rotten present.” :)
  • 6/29/22 – Abigail and I were playing “bakery” upstairs. I was the customer, and she was the baker. She told me, “You can keep that food because it everlasted.” “What does everlasted mean?” I asked. She replied, “It means you can eat it for your whole life!” Haha! :)
