We just got back on Saturday from an amazing week at the beach (recap to come!), but I wanted to make a separate post about the week before we left. Spoiler alert: It was pretty exciting!
In my last post, I included this ^ picture with a caption that said something like “The twins will be here soon too!” Well, none of us had any idea they’d be here 9 days after this picture was taken. Alisha’s due date was October 21st, but the boys apparently had other ideas! ;) Monday morning, September 19th, I awoke to a plethora of texts from Tyler. Alisha’s water had broken in the middle of the night, and they’d headed straight to the hospital. She was prepared to most likely need a c-section since Luke was breech, and that’s what they ended up doing early that Monday morning. By the time I read any of the messages, the babies had already been born! Thankfully, Luke and Barrett were both healthy and only needed to stay in the NICU for a few hours before going to the room with Alisha.

Meet Luke and Barrett! (They are identical, and I can’t tell them apart yet, but I think Barrett is in the blue swaddle in this picture). I still can’t believe that I’m an aunt of twins. It’s the coolest thing!
In spite of my desire to rush straight to the hospital Monday morning, we decided to wait until Travis could go with us that night. So, it was basically all I thought about all day long until we got up there :) That day also happened to be “Talk Like a Pirate Day” at Krispy Kreme. If you dressed like a pirate (with 3 articles of clothing), you got a dozen original glazed doughnuts for free. If you know my husband, you know he’s obsessed with getting things for free ;) So, of course, he planned for us to hit it up on the way to the hospital! I really didn’t think we needed 4 dozen doughnuts (seriously, he wanted us all to dress up!), so we decided that only he and Brooklyn would be pirates for the evening. He was in charge of their costumes, and I was impressed with what he came up with!
Arggghh! Don’t you like their hooks (made out of plastic cups and aluminum foil)?
I was surprised B did as well with the eye patch as she did! I was afraid she wouldn’t wear it at all. The things a girl will do for a doughnut ;)
You can’t really tell it from the picture, but the line was pretty long when we got there. I think we probably waited at least 30-45 minutes before we got to the front. It wouldn’t have been so bad if Savannah wasn’t so heavy! My arms were killing me by the time we left!
All smiles because we were getting closer to the front!
We happened to run into the Ethridges while we were there! Lillian had a legit pirate outfit :)
They enjoyed watching the doughnuts on the assembly line for a few minutes while we waited.
We finally got our 2 boxes of doughnuts and headed to the hospital. Between helping Brooklyn eat her doughnut and trying to keep Savannah from destroying the hospital room, we didn’t have a chance to take pictures of our newest nephews. We did get to hold them for a few minutes though. It felt unreal that they were finally here after so many months of anticipation!
This was the only picture we took at the hospital…haha. Actually, Brooklyn took it. She’s got skills!
So, the birth of Luke and Barrett was definitely the highlight of the week. Here are a few other pictures of what we were up to before we left town for the beach:
I can’t remember the last time Brooklyn fell asleep in my arms, so this had to be documented :) She obviously missed her Sunday afternoon nap that day!
I never thought I’d see the day, but Gabby is actually starting to tolerate Brooklyn a little better than she used to. It’s probably because Brooklyn has FINALLY learned how to pet her nicely and has (for the most part) stopped roaring at her and chasing her. It’s amazing what that does for a relationship! ;)
Best buds?! Haha…not quite! But, it’s a definite improvement. Brooklyn told me she was reading to Gabby in this picture :)
Gabby can’t exactly sit back and relax though because Pookie is right on her heels now. We’ve caught Savannah trying to stomp on her several times over the past few weeks. Poor cat! Maybe one day she’ll be loved and treated nicely by all…
You might remember the snack box that Caitlyn made for me after Savannah was born. It had all sorts of snacks in pre-portioned Ziplocs. Some stuff was for Brooklyn, and some was for me. It was so helpful and was one of the best gifts we got during that time! Well, I wanted to do the same thing for Alisha since it was so helpful for us. I asked several moms at church if they wanted to chip in, and this is what I collected on the Wednesday night after Luke and Barrett were born. It was quite a stash!!
The next day, on Thursday, I went shopping with Emily and Britni, and we bought a few more things we thought the Lovelesses could use, and then they helped me divide up everything in Ziplocs and organize it in boxes. We had so much stuff that we had to split it up into several small boxes. Carter even had his own big box of snacks just for him! I was able to deliver the stuff that night before we left town, and Tyler and Alisha were pretty shocked when I kept bringing in box after box full of food and drinks ;) Hopefully this will keep them stocked for weeks (or months?) to come!
The rest of our week was spent doing laundry, going to music class, doing Savannah’s Early Intervention session with Kacy, working (on Friday), lots of running (Travis is preparing for a half marathon in November), and getting packed for the beach. Next post will be all about our trip, so stay tuned!
