We’ve done a lot of fun things lately that I just haven’t had time to blog about. So, this will be a big recap of all of that…with pictures, of course! I am slowly getting more confident taking both girls out in public by myself. So far, it’s been pretty smooth sailing everywhere we’ve gone. I’ve gotten lucky I think! I know the day will come when we’ll have an outing that’s a complete disaster, so I’m trying to appreciate the good times when they come :)
We went back to the Athens Kiddie Carnival last weekend to use up a few tickets that we’d bought the first time we went. We were hoping that it would be a better experience the second time around, and overall it was. I think Brooklyn understood the concept of waiting in line and riding the rides one at a time much better last weekend since we’d done it once before. She waited pretty patiently in line and didn’t throw fits when picking out the color car she wanted to sit in. We even saw a few smiles from her when she was riding, and she waved at us too. The only hiccup of the night was the reason we ended up leaving early: she wouldn’t stay nearby on her own, but didn’t want to hold my hand either. She ended up taking off running across the whole grassy area (while looking back and smiling at us deviously) – all while I was yelling at her to come back. So, after a spanking and a lecture, she pretty much decided she didn’t want to do anything else, so we called it a night. I’m starting to understand why parents put their kids on a leash…haha ;)
We ran into Carla at the carnival, and she snapped these two pictures of Brooklyn. I thought they were cute!
This was Brooklyn’s favorite ride of the night. She didn’t do it the first time we went to the carnival because it looked like it was for bigger kids (it goes pretty high!), but leave it to B to like that ride the best ;)
Of course we had to get a snow cone!
Daddy and Savannah did some people watching while Brooklyn ate her snow cone :)
Savannah did great the whole night!
After Brooklyn pulled her big “escape” and we decided it was time to leave the carnival, we still had a few tickets left to use. Luckily, you can use them on food as well as rides. So we got cotton candy and popcorn and took them home with us! We ate the popcorn in the car, and then Brooklyn enjoyed the cotton candy in the bath tub that night :)
One day at church, Brooklyn thought it was funny to pat Nathan on the head :)
Cereal tastes better when you eat it with your shades on :)
It has been SO hot lately that the only time we play in the backyard is usually 9 AM or earlier – this morning, Simba came out to play too :)
Playing in the water feels good on a hot morning!
Splash zone :)
I signed Brooklyn up for a toddler “club” mailer from Publix, and they sent her an apron in the mail last week. Now, we just need to get her on the payroll! I think she’d love working as a taste tester in the bakery :)
Brooklyn has gotten a lot more interested in Savannah in the past couple of weeks. She thinks it’s so funny to hear Savannah “talk”, especially when it seems like she is talking to HER! Brooklyn likes to babble back at Savannah and say, “Hey, Sister!”
A cute sister moment – this was the first time Savannah rolled onto her side by herself :)
Brooklyn decided to pick out a book to read to Sister…so she picked out the “Potty Book for Girls”…haha. Pretty funny considering Big Sister herself still hasn’t learned anything from that book ;)
Savannah tried out the Bumbo seat for the first time this week…
…and Brooklyn decided this would be the perfect opportunity to test out her “doctor” skills on her sister!
First, she gave Savannah a shot! It’s blurry because Brooklyn is so quick with that syringe ;)
Next it was time to check Sister’s temperature…
…and then she needed to look at Sister’s eyes and ears!
Last but not least, she used the “tweezers” to poke Sister in the arm…haha. It was a good checkup, and Sister didn’t seem to mind!
Our tongues turned red and blue after eating Luigi’s!
Brooklyn checked out her red tongue in the mirror!
Last Saturday, we went mattress shopping with the girls. Brooklyn was worn out by the end! Savannah was using the stroller, so Brooklyn had to walk everywhere (plus running around in the stores themselves, of course!). At Sleep Number, she thought it was funny to go up to other customers who were “sleeping” in the beds and say “Wake up!” right in their face. Hopefully, no one minded too much ;) She’s not shy, that’s for sure!
Just chillin! Her hands are always in her mouth these days…
That smile looks just like Daddy’s smile to me :)
Every once in a while, I can lay her down asleep on the couch and she’ll stay asleep for a few minutes. Of course, that only works when Big Sister is napping too. When Brooklyn is awake, Savannah won’t sleep except in her room with the sound machine on. Wonder why?? ;)
More matching outfits that we borrowed from Leah!
Brooklyn did NOT want to take pictures…haha
This cute outfit is 6 month size. Brooklyn (left) could still wear it at 7 months old, and Savannah (right) is fitting in it at 3 months. Somehow I don’t think it will be fitting in another 4 months! She’s just a tall girl! :)
Cutie!
Folding laundry is hard work!
On Monday, I got brave and took the girls to Bridge Street so that Brooklyn could play in the pop up fountain. We got there at 9:40 so that we could get a bench under an umbrella and thought we’d just be waiting a few minutes for the jets to turn on. Well, according to one of the workers, the jets don’t really turn on until 10:01 AM! Don’t they realize that waiting 15-20 minutes is an eternity for a 2 year old? Haha. They really should update their signs though…
Once they turned on, it didn’t take Brooklyn long to get wet and have lots of fun!
This little boy wasn’t very nice to Brooklyn. He kept coming up to the jet she was playing in and yelling at her to go play in another one. So, Brooklyn would yell back: “No THANK YOU!” Haha!!
She ran up to me smiling, and I snapped this picture really fast. Standing still and smiling for the camera is a thing of the past these days!
Brooklyn was so well behaved the whole time we were there! I had told her to stay right there in the fountain area or we’d just have to leave and go home. She minded really well! We stayed until about 10:45 AM, and when it was time to go and change into dry clothes, she was great and didn’t throw a fit. It was a very successful outing!
The only hiccup of the morning, which I didn’t realize until 3 days later, was that when I was loading the stroller in the car, the Boba (our baby carrier) must have fallen out of the stroller in the parking lot, and I didn’t see it. I didn’t even realize it was missing until Thursday! I got REALLY lucky though because a security guard found it in the parking lot and took it to the “lost and found” area of the mall. I called Guest Services on Thursday and was so relieved that they had it. I was afraid we’d never find it again, and it would be $140 down the drain. I’m just so scatterbrained these days trying to wrangle 2 kids…it’s not surprising that something like that happened. I need to be more careful from now on!
Wednesday was Savannah’s appointment with the ENT, Dr. Castillo, about her tongue tie. Brooklyn wanted to sit in the cool chair while we waited on him to come in and see Savannah.
That evening before supper, Brooklyn told Daddy she wanted to sit with him in his lap (which rarely happens). I had to snap a picture of Daddy and his girls!
On Thursday, we met Stephanie and Charles at the fountains outside of the Early Works Museum for a playdate. We had a great time! Charles is a month older than Brooklyn, and they are almost exactly the same size. They had fun chasing each other around the fountain…more so than playing in the water. Brooklyn got a little wet, but not like she did at Bridge Street. I think she was a little intimidated by how high the water was shooting up.
Stephanie has a membership to the museum, so she was able to get me in for free and Brooklyn was half price. Can’t beat $2.50 for a morning of fun! Thanks, Stephanie, for inviting us!
Brooklyn enjoyed “fishing” in the water table. This was one of her favorite parts of the museum. It was full of fish that you could catch with the magnetic fishing poles. She actually caught one or two I think!
In this building area, they had construction hats and boots for the kids to wear. These boots came all the way up Brooklyn’s legs…haha! She could barely walk :)
Charles really liked this turtle puppet!
She loved playing with the trains on the train table and building with blocks. So far, she doesn’t seem to be much of a girly girl. She didn’t want to dress up in the dress up area of the museum. She’d rather build things, play with trains, and go fishing…haha! That’s Daddy’s kind of girl!
It was such a fun morning that both girls were exhausted by the time we got home at 12:30. Brooklyn fell asleep for the last 5-10 of the ride home, and when I woke up her to get out of the car and eat lunch, she stumbled into the house and laid down on the laundry room floor and tried to go back to sleep…haha! Thankfully, I was able to convince her to eat lunch before her nap. She ended up sleeping 3.5 hours!! It was really nice. And Savannah slept almost as long with me holding her on the couch. It was a nice, relaxing afternoon! If I could have an afternoon like that every time, I’d say let’s go back for play dates at the museum more often ;)
Finally, to wrap up this busy week, yesterday was my first day back to work since Savannah was born. I’d been off for 3 months! It was a good day overall (except for my patient who tried to escape…long story), and Travis said they had a good day at home too! Savannah is a bottle drinking champ! (So much better than her big sis was.) And Brooklyn was apparently pretty well behaved for Daddy too. My plan is to try to work one day a week like I did after Brooklyn was born, so we will see how that goes :)
We’re counting down the days until we head to the beach. It’s only a week away! Hopefully we will all get SOME sleep (Brooklyn never seems to sleep that great on vacation), and it will be a semi-relaxing trip ;) I’m sure she will have a blast in the sand and water. Should be a fun time!!
