I already covered swim lessons in my previous post, so this one will include everything else that we were up to in the month of June. I had forgotten how busy it was until I was just looking back at all the pictures…
June 1st – check out those two bottom teeth!
On June 2nd, we had a small diaper and wipes shower for a few ladies from church who were all due this summer. I was able to reserve the clubhouse in our neighborhood, which worked out really nicely. I didn’t have to clean our house beforehand or worry about what to do with the kids during the shower. A definite win!
I had it easy because Alisha and Britni took care of all the decorating. I thought the clouds and rain drops were so cute!
So many babies on the way!
We had a small turnout, but I think the moms appreciated everything anyway :)
Life is tough!
This is pretty much what the playroom looks like all the time…
I tried giving Abigail Cheerios to eat, but she struggled to do much with them at first. She could pick them up in handfuls, but if any made it to her mouth, she’d usually just spit them back out ;)
Storytime with Daddy before bed!
Travis’s birthday was June 5th. Once the girls figured out that Daddy’s birthday was coming up, they wanted to wrap up some “presents” (pictures they’d drawn) for him to open that night :)
Happy birthday, Daddy!
Morning drawing time is almost always at the coffee table :)
Rub-a-dub-dub: 3 cuties in the tub!
The annual Dvorak family reunion at Joe Wheeler was on June 9th this year. It was our first time taking 3 kids to the reunion, which is an all-day event outside during one of the hottest months of the year. It really went about as well as it could have in my opinion. I think Travis and I have lowered our expectations over the last few years for what we’re able to do while we’re there. Before kids, we used to play tennis, ultimate frisbee, and board games all day long. Now, we consider it a success to play one board game the whole day…haha. We still have fun….it’s just different than it used to be. And it’s definitely way better now that Brooklyn and Savannah are old enough to actually enjoy it themselves :)
The pool has been a huge hit with the kids for the last few years!
The reunion happened to fall on the Saturday in between the two weeks of swim lessons that the girls did. Savannah tried to practice her skills, but there wasn’t a lot of room for swimming ;)
Sweet little cousins!
Abigail and Barrett had some bonding time on the quilt after lunch…
Abigail did well the whole day!
Oh Pookie…
Somebody needs to teach that girl how to eat a hot dog!
I don’t think it gets any cuter than identical twins wearing nothing but their diapers :)
We brought our bubble machine, and the kids enjoyed it!
Bubbles everywhere!
We had a fun day! The kids played hard and slept well that night.
June 10th – Brooklyn was in the preschool Bible class until school started in August. They had a big class! I’m thankful when the teachers take pictures and share them since I’m not in there to see myself :)
On June 12th, we had supper at IHOP—always a favorite with the girls!
Abigail’s personality summed up in one picture :)
Pancakes are one food that we never have to try very hard to convince them to eat!
June 13th – We made a quick run to Publix after swim lessons. I think this was Abigail’s first time to sit up in the shopping cart.
This month, Brooklyn was very interested in making her own sandwich creations for lunch. This sandwich had peanut butter, banana, and raisins on it. Yum? :)
On June 14th, we ate lunch at Chick-fil-a after swim lessons with Alisha, Nicole, and Britni (and their kids). Chick-fil-a is about the only restaurant I’ll take all 3 kids to without Travis because they make it so easy to order ahead of time (plus there’s the playground area for entertainment).
Abigail slept through most of the lunch, so that worked out nicely!
Meet Princess Savannah!
After swim lessons on Friday, June 15th (when Paw and Rae Rae came to watch), we ate lunch with them at Firehouse Subs afterward. I think Savannah was pretty excited to be with her Paw…what do you think?
That evening, we celebrated Father’s Day with Paw and Rae Rae before they headed home. This year, our gift for Paw was a new monogrammed hat…perfect for pontoon rides and walks around the neighborhood. I think he liked it!
After our makeup swim lesson on Saturday, June 16th, the girls wanted to eat a picnic lunch somewhere in the neighborhood. We ended up taking the wagon down to the playground beside the clubhouse and setting up our picnic there. It was hot but fun!
By this point in the summer, it was really starting to hit me that Brooklyn would be starting school SOON. It was less than 2 months away…
…so I tried to soak up all the (silly) snuggles I could get.
On June 19th, we went to the Madison library for storytime. They have a nice kids area with blocks and computers, so the kids always enjoy hanging out for a while after storytime is over.
We saw the Faris family while we were there that day! Silas is about a month older than Abigail. They were both NICU babies, and their time in the hospital overlapped by a week or two I think. It doesn’t seem that long ago that they were both tiny!
This month, Abigail was really looking like Brooklyn to me (at least in certain pictures like this one). What do you think?
On June 20th, the girls had a dentist appointment with Dr. Curtis. Abigail technically didn’t have an appointment, but he still cleaned her teeth anyway…all two of them ;) This was Brooklyn’s first time to get her teeth cleaned with the real equipment while lying down on the table. She did great! She also got an x-ray taken of her teeth for the first time. Dr. Curtis said it doesn’t look like she’ll be losing her first tooth anytime soon based on the x-ray. I guess her permanent teeth aren’t getting too close to the surface yet. Everything went well at the appointment, and all 3 girls’ teeth looked good!
Brooklyn’s love for art has rubbed off on Savannah. They both enjoy painting!
I’ve gotten brave enough to let Savannah paint with real paint (as opposed to just using water and a brush). She does a pretty good job at keeping herself clean! These girls can churn out some artwork about as fast as I can supply the paper…haha.
Working on feeding herself…this was a “teething biscuit” that I bought at the grocery store. Easier to pick up than Cheerios, but she never cared for them too much. She would gnaw on one for a few minutes, but then it usually ended up on the floor!
I love their imagination—they turned the coffee table into a “bunk bed” one day. I liked how Brooklyn even had her clothes and shoes neatly organized beside the bottom bunk :)
Michael, the baby whisperer!
On June 25th, we went to a splash pad in north Huntsville that we’d never been to before. We were meeting our neighbors (Alison, Jacob, and Hannah), but we got there a few minutes before they did. The girls had a blast!
We had such a fun morning! There are covered pavilions with picnic tables and bathrooms with a changing area. It is definitely somewhere we’ll try to hit up next summer again.
Cutie!
Shopped til we dropped :) Hey, it was Hobby Lobby…what can I say?
Abigail started doing better with table foods toward the end of the month. Here, she was gnawing on a piece of watermelon…
I usually have a little buddy with me while I’m taking a shower or getting ready :)
My big helper, Savannah, set the silverware out before supper one night!
Morning TV time :)
A little playtime upstairs :)
I took the big girls to the Kiddie Carnival in Athens on June 28th, which was their opening night for the summer. Travis ended up staying home with Abigail that evening. The weather had been stormy earlier that day, so it was kind of last minute decision whether to go or not. I’m glad we did! It wasn’t hot, and the crowds weren’t bad at all! We got there about 15 minutes before the Hoods arrived, and Brooklyn chose to ride the little swings first…
…followed by the rocket ships!
Meanwhile, Savannah hung out in the stroller and said she didn’t want to ride anything…haha. Last summer, she only chose to ride a couple of rides, but I was hoping maybe she would be a little more adventurous this year :)
However, once Nathan and Gabriel arrived, Savannah completely changed her tune and decided she would ride EVERYTHING! I guess she wanted to show off for the boys ;) Also, I just realized that they are standing from oldest to youngest in this picture!
After Nathan and Brooklyn rode the big swings, all 4 of them hopped on the rocket ships together. Savannah sat with Gabriel, and Brooklyn and Nathan sat together.
…and then it was time for the big swings again. This time, Savannah even rode! I couldn’t believe it when she said she wanted to ride.
She looks like she’s holding on for dear life…haha
Afterward, Savannah told me she liked it, but “the swings were a little high” :)
Snack time!!
The cotton candy and popcorn are always a big hit…
It also surprised me that Savannah wanted to ride the Ferris wheel!
Giving high fives at the bottom is one of the best parts of this ride!
I love the fact that Nathan and Brooklyn still enjoy these rides even now that they are a little older. We’ve been going to the Kiddie Carnival together since they were 2, and they always have a blast. Sweet memories!
It was already past 8 PM by this point, but we decided to try a few more rides since the lines were so short. We always try to catch the train while it is actually working (it’s notorious for being broken down).
Brooklyn and Nathan barely fit in these cars anymore…haha. I wonder if they will even try them next year?
We rode one last ride after the cars (the carousel, which I didn’t get a picture of because I was on it too…haha), and then we called it a night. I was so glad we ended up going even though the weather was looking iffy that afternoon. It turned out to be a perfect evening! This ended up being the only time we went to the Kiddie Carnival this summer, but I’m hoping next summer that Abigail will be big enough to ride a few rides herself :)
On June 29th, Alisha and Danielle and their kids came over, and we went to our neighborhood pool. We pretty much had it to ourselves, which was really nice!
Then, we headed back to our house for lunch and a little playtime…
We love having our cousins over!
Abigail always gets plenty of attention from Luke and Barrett. They are probably excited that there is somebody younger than them around now :)
That night after supper, the girls ate popcorn and watched a show about animals together. It’s one of their favorite things to do with Daddy!
Quotes and Notes from June:
- 6/17/18 – Savannah loves to sing “Jesus Loves Me” and “Trust and Obey” and knows the words to 2 verses of both songs!
- 6/20/18 – Brooklyn announced last night that she is moving to New York City! She plans to gather up her stuff today, pack a lunch to eat in the car, and leave. We told her it would be a long drive, but she didn’t seem deterred. Hopefully, Jenn and Chandler will let her sleep on their couch because I doubt she can afford to pay any rent up there ;)
- 6/21/18 – Savannah says, “Don’t wait for me!” when she really means “Wait for me!” (such as when she wants Brooklyn to wait to start a movie).
- “I see someone weed-eater-ing! I hear someone mawn-mowing!” – Savannah loves to point out people cutting the grass or working in their yards.
- Savannah likes to pick out her own “sun-shoot” (swimsuit) to wear when we go swimming :)
- 6/27/18 – Abigail has slept until 7 or 7:15 AM for 4 nights in a row now!
- 6/27/18 – “I hope! I hope! It’s off to work we go!” – Savannah’s version of the 7 dwarfs song from Snow White :)
- 6/27/18 – This is the first week Abigail has really started trying table food. I am mostly spoon feeding it to her, but she has tried steamed broccoli, ravioli, chicken pot pie, squash, etc. and done really well so far! Sometimes the food is sitting on her tongue for a minute before she swallows it, but she doesn’t get choked very much and isn’t spitting it back out. Progress!
- 6/30/18 – Savannah told us before supper: “I’m going to eat ALL my supper! I worked up an APPLE-tite!”
That’s all for now!
