Well, I guess I spoke too soon.
In the two weeks since I blogged last, Savannah has woken up and decided she does not want to be an easygoing baby after all. She is still nursing really well (which I am definitely very thankful for!), but sleeping is another matter. I think she finally has her days and nights figured out, but we had several really rough nights last week where she was awake screaming her head off for several hours and we could NOT get her to go to sleep no matter what we tried. One night, I even resorted to driving her around in the car at 12:30 AM to see if that would work. About the only way we could ever get any sleep at night was by holding her in the recliner in the living room. Now, she is finally sleeping better at night (3-4 hour stretches at a time and going back to sleep after eating easily), but we are still battling her during the day to get her to sleep. I’ve never seen a newborn who fights sleep this badly before. Nothing we have tried will consistently work, but SOMETIMES walking around and bouncing her, putting her in the Moby, putting her in the swing, or listening to white noise will help. We think she has some reflux because she doesn’t like to lie down flat, so she sleeps best when she is propped up. If she’s not asleep, she wants to be held 24/7, and she’s usually fussing unless she’s asleep even while being held. Here’s to hoping we can figure out some magic solution soon! :)
Brooklyn seems to be getting the hang of her role as big sister. The whining and acting out have gotten better overall, so that’s been nice. She is still waking up early (between 6 and 6:30 AM usually), but she is taking great afternoon naps (around 3 hours sometimes!), so that helps to make up for the early wake up call :)
We had a busy and interesting weekend, but I will save that for a separate blog post. Here are some pictures we’ve taken over the past 2 weeks…
Baugay came over one afternoon to hold Savannah and bring her a quilt she’d made :)
First picture of Savannah and Korah together with their daddies! Korah is 8 days older than Savannah (they were due 1 day apart). It will be fun to watch them grow up together!
Savannah loves to be swaddled…and she loves lying on Daddy’s chest!
Brooklyn tried to share her toys with Sister…haha!
Mother’s Day 2015 – Cici with her 3 grandbabies!
I love my girls!
Aunt Melissa’s first time holding Savannah
Before lunch on Mother’s Day :)
Cici helped Brooklyn make this gift for me for Mother’s Day. It was so sweet!
More water fun outside in the backyard…
Brooklyn has spent several afternoons and evenings at Cici’s house since Sister was born. Here, she is helping Cici with a gardening project :)
Travis went back to work on Monday for the first time in 2.5 weeks, so Alisha and Carter came over to hang out with us for a few hours…
This was Carter’s first time in the wagon. He seemed to enjoy it!
Sidewalk chalking on the patio!
“I’m so excited!” to actually be asleep during the day! Or, at least, it made my mommy happy…
Ready for bed!
Snuggles with Daddy before bedtime
Nursing has become a family affair…haha. (Ignore my hair towel and lack of makeup…)
We’ve been getting meals 3x/week from the ladies at KSR (which has been so helpful!), but this box of snacks that Caitlyn brought on Monday was beyond thoughtful!!! It has anything and everything we could possibly want to snack on…already divided up into snack bags and everything. I was blown away when I saw it! And this was on top of bringing us supper :) Thank you, Caitlyn!!! We are already digging in :)
This was Savannah’s first time on the activity mat yesterday. Of course, Brooklyn wanted to join in on the fun…
Hanging out in the Boppy pillow…
Sister got her first real bath last night! We had to wait a while because even though her cord came off at 8 days old, it wasn’t healed up underneath very well. Her pediatrician ended up putting silver nitrate on it last week to dry it out, and it looks much better now!
Brooklyn “helping” out ;)
She didn’t mind the bath part…but she hated getting out of the tub, drying off, and getting lotion put on!
All clean!
We might have a blue-eyed red head on our hands!! We’ll see!!!
