September was busy with soccer and several fun school activities. Before we knew it, it was time for fall break and our family beach trip. Here’s the recap of everything from September leading up to fall break:
We kicked off the month with dinner at a new-to-us restaurant called Mozza Pizza. We met Phil and Gena there and enjoyed the New York style pizzas…they were huge and very good!

It was nice to have the day off of school and work for Labor Day. Savannah and Abigail spent part of their off day playing with American Girl dolls.
September 5th – reading at school and on the walk home ;)

That evening, I took Abigail to LEGO night at school while Travis took Brooklyn and Savannah to Dublin for their soccer practices.

We frequently see Gabriella and Mia’s car on the walk to school in the morning. On September 6th, the girls decided to “race” their car to school ;)
Abigail LOVED having Mrs. Curry as her kindergarten teacher and was so sad when the year ended. I told her that maybe we could work it out for her to be able to come back to Mrs. Curry’s room and read to her new class of kindergarteners at some point during the school year. Mrs. Pride and Mrs. Curry made it happen on September 6th, and Abigail was very excited. I heard she did a great job, and I know Mrs. Curry was happy to see her too!

Brooklyn and I have been writing in a mother-daughter journal to each other, and one day she returned it with some candy :)
On September 7th, Savannah played the first game of the day at Palmer 1 at 8:30. Her team played Coach Dusty’s team today. It was definitely their most challenging game so far, but I was proud of how Savannah and the other girls tried so hard. They won the game 4-2! Savannah didn’t score any goals today, but she played top notch defense and also made a great throw-in to Gabriella who took it and scored. It was a cool, cloudy morning, which was a big contrast to her game last Saturday that was SO hot.
Savannah’s game finished just in time for me to get Brooklyn to her game at Palmer 7 at 10 am. Her team only had a couple of subs today. Brooklyn scored a couple of quick goals in the 1st quarter and finished the game with 3 goals. Her team ended up winning 5-1. She is one of the oldest girls on the team this season and is definitely a leader out there. I’m proud of how she hustles and helps set the tone for the other girls. It was great to see Makenzie after the game too. She and Brooklyn know each other from elementary school, but are zoned for different middle schools.
Travis took Abigail to her game, and she said her team won their game 4-3. She apparently scored a goal toward the beginning of the game and another one near the end of the game. She was most excited to tell me about how she kicked it really high and the ball even went over the grownups’ heads! 😊 What a girl!
I sure do love these soccer players!!
Red House earned “inflatable recess” on September 9th, and I volunteered to help supervise the kids. Savannah was excited to be able to participate!

“Let’s see if we can both ride on the scooter together!”

This year, I am Mrs. Pride’s room mom, and she asked me if I could help with library checkouts most Wednesday mornings throughout the year. I have enjoyed getting to know the kids better by taking them in small groups to the library to return and pick out new books.
The girls had silly string recess on September 11th as a prize for raising money for the school fundraiser. Last year, Abigail chose not to participate, but this year she did and had a lot of fun. Savannah did too!

Abigail came out of bible class dressed like a soldier that night :)
September 12th was Grandfriend Day at school, and Savannah and Abigail were happy that Rae Rae was able to come. The girls loved having her visit their classrooms for some special time together.

The soccer fields were closed on September 12th because they were too wet, so Coach Theresa had her team meet at the greenway for some conditioning (i.e. running). Savannah and Abigail tagged along, and Travis got a short run in as well.
Savannah and Abigail enjoyed a popcorn party at school on September 13th as another fundraiser prize.

We met Mrs. Curry at Dairy Queen after school for some ice cream, and we really enjoyed catching up with her. Savannah and Abigail were blessed with the BEST kindergarten teacher!! Those smiles say it all :)
We played around with some fun hairstyles this month. Abigail kept practicing how to do her own ponytails and impressed me with how well she did!
Abigail’s team scrimmaged another team at their practice on September 16th, which was fun to watch.
Two teachers at Mill Creek started a book club at school this year for 2nd-5th graders, and Savannah decided to join. They have been reading several books over the course of the year and meeting a couple of times a month before school to discuss them and do related activities. Their first meeting was on September 17th. I’m thankful for teachers who go above and beyond to do special things like this with the kids!

Learning math with hands-on activities
The reading specialist and math specialist both came to Mrs. Pride’s room this month for a read-aloud!

Sweet friends on the playground – Evelyn, Abigail, Sadie, and Genevieve
On September 20th, Abigail had a field trip to the Cook Museum in Decatur. I was thankful for the opportunity to go with her! Brooklyn and Savannah both went there on field trips in 1st grade as well, and we’ve been once as a family before. It was neat to see how much they’ve improved on the way they handle large groups since Brooklyn went in 1st grade though. They have it down to a well-run process at this point! Abigail enjoyed the day and had a lot of fun, especially at the kinetic sand table and seeing all the butterflies. New this year was mining for gemstones, and she really liked that too! The group I was chaperoning toured the different areas of the museum with a different class (Mr. Blackburn’s class), but we were able to meet back up with Mrs. Pride at the end of the day for lunch. It was a good day!

The girls got their American Girl dolls out after school for a little playtime :)
Soccer games were cancelled on September 14th due to wet fields, so we had a week off before the next games on September 21st. Savannah’s game was first up at 9:30 at Dublin 3. We were all able to go to the game, as well as Cici, Paw, and Rae Rae! It was already pretty hot, but Savannah did her best. She played the whole game except the 3rd quarter. The Purple Panthers won the game 7-0, and Savannah scored 3 goals. I love watching her play because she always tries so hard! Paw worked on teaching Abigail how to tie her shoes during the game. (Thank you, Paw!) We moved to a shady spot under a nearby tree after the game to hang out for a few minutes and let the girls eat their lunch because Abigail and Brooklyn both had games at 11:30 am.
I went to Abigail’s game at Dublin 4, and Travis and Savannah went with Brooklyn to Palmer 10 for her game. Abigail’s team was playing Hannah’s team today! It was a fun game with a lot of scoring by both teams. I lost count of the final score. Abigail scored two goals today! Her second goal ended up being the last play of the game. It was very hot by this time, but I was proud of Abigail for toughing it out and running hard. Uncle Gary and Aunt Vicki came to the game, so that was extra special!
We hurried to get to Brooklyn’s game afterward and made it for the last quarter. Brooklyn’s team went down 0-3 in the first quarter, but came back to make it a closer game. They ended up losing 3-5. Brooklyn was disappointed, but Travis said she played the whole game despite the heat and played really great defense. Her team has a lot of young players this season, so they are still working out some kinks. But Brooklyn is a great leader on the team!
We met up with Emily and her girls that evening to deliver the Millstone News. We don’t normally deliver on Saturdays, but it has gotten harder to find a time to get together due to everyone’s busy schedules. The girls rode their bikes and scooters since we now have around 20 houses on our route!

The cousins enjoyed some chill reading time while waiting on Sunday lunch to be ready.
Travis headed out to Yuma, AZ that afternoon for a short work trip. He sent us some pictures of the landscape. Totally different from around here!

Racing to school on September 23rd like old times. (We headed there early so that Brooklyn and I would have time to walk home before driving to the middle school).

Savannah got to help out at Abigail’s practice that evening because they needed an extra player :) She did a good job taking it easy on them and not being too rough.

I surprised Savannah by coming to lunch on September 24th…
The girls spent some time riding bikes up and down the street that evening. We have a long straight sidewalk near our house, which is a great spot for them to ride.

Fun with friends at indoor recess

With Rock Your School coming up a few days after fall break, I knew I needed to get started on decorations before our trip to the beach. The RYS theme was “Adventures Under the Sea”, and Mrs. Pride specifically wanted to do an otter theme since that’s her favorite animal. I worked on this door covering for her room and got a lot of it prepped before our trip.

Thankful for Carter and Savannah’s bond as cousins! They are only 6 months apart in age.

Savannah’s soccer team practiced in the rain on September 26th. She was soaked by the time they finished, but it was a lot of fun!

Abigail’s class celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day with a special snack on September 27th.
Notes and Quotes from September 2024:
- 9/6/24 – Abigail’s prayer at bedtime: “Thank you for our heads that don’t get chopped off. Thank you for our shoulders that keep things connected. Thank you for our knees that help us run and catch the breeze. Thank you for our toes that help us twirl like ballerinas. In Jesus name, Amen.” (Did you catch the head, shoulders, knees, and toes theme? Haha!)
- 9/7/24 – We were making shrimp alfredo for dinner, and Abigail asked, “Are the shrimp dead?” I answered “yes”, and then she said, “Why did someone kill them? They’re just trying to have a sea living life. That’s rude. Why would someone do that?” :)
