On Saturday we took Brooklyn (and Savannah) to a pumpkin patch for the first time. There are two pumpkin patches that are both about 30-40 minutes away from our house, Lyon Family Farms and Tate Farms. We’d never been to either one, and Lyon Family Farms advertised having “pig races”, so that was enough to convince us to try it over Tate Farms ;) That, and the fact that it was a few dollars cheaper per person :) So, we made a morning of it! The Lovelesses and Broadwells joined us, and we all had a great time. It was $10/person, and there was so much to do. I really think we could have stayed all day if Brooklyn hadn’t been getting tired by the end. We ended up staying from about 9 AM to 1:30 PM. The weather cooperated for the most part. It wasn’t too hot or cold, but it did rain off and on a few times. The rain didn’t scare us away though!
Brooklyn had a blast! There were plenty of slides, a playground, a pumpkin bounce house, trampoline, corn cribs, a corn maze, cow train, pig races, and more. Any place where Brooklyn can slide and jump is a hit with her. She was really the perfect age to try a lot of the activities, and I think she’ll enjoy going for several years to come. We are planning to make it a yearly tradition :) We were really proud of how well she behaved for most of the day. She never threw any major fits when we told her that it was time to stop and move on to another activity. Most of the time she was really sweet about it and just followed right along. She would just ask, “Can we do something else now?” She only rode in the stroller for a few minutes while we were walking through the corn maze, and other than that, she walked everywhere. I was actually surprised she lasted as long as she did without any major meltdowns from getting tired. Savannah did well for the whole morning too. She took a couple of naps while I was wearing her in the Boba, and was pretty happy while she rode in the stroller too. The farm had a small building reserved for nursing moms to feed and change babies in, which was really nice, so I fed her in there once while we were there. Overall, it was a great experience, and we are already looking forward to going back next year!
I dressed the girls in matching shirts :) Next year, maybe I’ll remember that white is a bad idea for a day at the pumpkin patch…haha. Brooklyn got pretty dirty!!
The first thing we did when we got there was the cow train. Douglas was clearly pumped about it ;)
We rode by the animals and made a big loop and came back. Brooklyn seemed to enjoy it!
We made it back!
Next, we went over to the big trampoline. Since we got there right when they opened, the trampoline wasn’t too crowded yet. I was glad we tried it first thing in the morning!
Daddy helped Brooklyn jump. She loved it!
“Hi, Mom!”
Next, Brooklyn asked Douglas to ride the big, black slide with her :)
Here they come!
Then, she tried it all by herself! No fear from this girl :)
Daddy is just a big kid at heart!
Next, we checked out the animals in the petting zoo. I missed most of this because I was feeding Savannah, but Brooklyn got to pet a lot of different animals. There were cows, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, chickens, donkeys, and probably others that I’m forgetting.
Hi, Mr. Sheep!
Checking out the goats…
Wonder what the cow was thinking?
Then, it was about time for the pig races to begin, so we headed that way. They had a big sign for the “Brisket 500″…haha. I didn’t get a picture of it, but basically 4 pigs just ran in a loop (apparently chasing oreos)…it was pretty cute!
Next, Britni wanted to try out the barrel races, but the guys (and Brooklyn) got distracted by the footballs, basketballs, and baseballs for a few minutes ;)
So sweet!
Finally, it was time to try to barrel race…a.k.a. running in a hamster wheel!
It was hysterical watching this! Britni was determined to be the winner :)
Travis said it was very awkward because you couldn’t stand up straight…haha
The Loveless family piled into one barrel…I was cracking up at Carter!
Britni was going to win!
Brooklyn slowed Douglas down tremendously ;)
On the way back, Travis decided it would be easier to just walk backwards…haha!
…and Brooklyn just sat down the whole way back. There go the Lovelesses again!
Brooklyn loved this slide too!
Wheeeee!
She probably went down it at least 3 times…maybe more!
Next, we wandered through the corn maze!
There were maps that you could use to navigate yourself through, so we didn’t get too turned around ;)
The double stroller came in handy several times when the kiddos (or the parents’ arms) got tired :)
We made it out!
Douglas and Britni had to leave around lunchtime, but the rest of us stayed a couple more hours. Savannah just chilled in the stroller while we ate our lunch :)
After lunch, Brooklyn and Carter played in the corn crib. Carter wasn’t too crazy about it, but Brooklyn LOVED it. This was one of the activities where we had to finally just had to tell her it was time to move on to something else…or she would have stayed in there all day!
The kids were “burying” each other in the corn, and Brooklyn was waiting for her turn :)
She thought that was awesome! :)
Savannah waited so patiently while Big Sis was playing…
Next, she wanted to jump in a bounce house shaped like a pumpkin, so we did that for a few minutes…
…then she wanted to jump off a big hay bale onto a mattress…haha. She did lots of jumping that day!
The first time, Daddy jumped with her…
That was fun :)
The next time, he tossed her…haha!
We couldn’t leave without checking out the pumpkins. We didn’t buy one, but Brooklyn enjoyed just going around and trying to pick them up off the ground. She actually lifted up some of them all by herself!
Lots of pumpkins!
The Lovelesses posed for a quick picture…
…while Brooklyn tried out the rubber ducky races. Basically, you just pumped water into a PVC pipe to race the ducky along to the other side. She thought it was pretty neat!
By this time, it was starting to rain a little harder, so we decided to call it a day. We stopped for a quick picture before heading to the car. We didn’t even do everything there, so I know we could have stayed even longer. Next year, Savannah will be big enough to try some of the activities too! It will be fun!
Brooklyn insisted she wasn’t tired while we were heading to the car, but she looked like this about 2 minutes after we left the parking lot. She played HARD!
We had such a great time!! Can’t wait to go back again! :)
