Night at the Carnival

Last night, we took Brooklyn to the Kiddie Carnival in Athens for the first time. She’d never been to any type of carnival before, but we figured she would love it. After all, she is a daredevil and loves a thrill. We met Caitlyn and Nathan there so that they could ride some of the rides together. Last night was Nathan’s second time to go, so he was the veteran of the group :)

It was an interesting experience. I think Brooklyn enjoyed the rides, but overall she didn’t have a great night. She hardly smiled while she was riding (and some of the time, she was screaming and crying), but when she was finished, she would want to do it again. It was typical “terrible twos” behavior. The beginning of the night was fine, but it got worse as the night went on. By the end, she was just having meltdown after meltdown, so we decided to just call it a night and go home early. Most of the time, she was crying at the end of a ride because she wanted to ride it again on a different color (but not have to wait in line again to do it). Or, she would throw a fit because she picked the “green” car, but then when we put her in it, she suddenly wanted to ride in the “blue car” or something like that.

We still managed to have fun for the most part. Hopefully, Nathan will still want to be Brooklyn’s friend after last night! :) He, of course, acted like an angel all evening, which just made B look even worse…haha ;) We still have a few tickets that we didn’t use last night, so maybe we will try to go back sometime over the next 2 weekends before the carnival is over. And maybe it will be a better night then!

Some of these pictures are just hilarious…

This was the first ride that Brooklyn did. The whole time she rode, she refused to smile or “pose” for a picture. She just looked down at the steering wheel or made funny faces like she was embarrassed…haha

The closest thing to a smile we could get

We caught a little smile on camera…

but, more often than not, she had the thumb in!

Brooklyn’s first rollercoaster!

Pretty good representation of the night as a whole: Nathan is smiling, and Brooklyn is acting like she’s too cool for school.

That. Face. Doesn’t it remind you of Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber??

Mommy went to go buy Brooklyn a snow cone during this ride, and she didn’t hide it well enough. Once Brooklyn spotted it, she wanted to get off the ride immediately. Whoops!

Finally!

First time eating cotton candy! Nathan was very sweet to share some with her. It was funny…he kept handing her piece after piece, even when she wasn’t finished with the last piece. Ha!

Community snow cone…

In case you were wondering about Sister, she pretty much slept the whole time we were there (about 2 hours). And even when she wasn’t asleep, she was perfectly content to stay in the stroller and suck her paci. She did great!

After the snack break, we headed for the swings. I thought this would be Brooklyn’s favorite. Maybe it would have been if she hadn’t been crying the whole time that she didn’t want to ride on the “orange one”. Oh my.

The last ride we attempted was the carousel. The whole time we were riding, Brooklyn kept saying she wanted to get off the green horse and ride the purple one instead…

…so we called it a night after this ride was over.

Whew! It was a hot, tiring night, but it was still fun when we weren’t dealing with tantrums. I love that the rides are so cheap: 50 cents each! It was well worth the $5 that we spent. And you can’t beat a 50 cent snow cone!

Here’s to a better night at the carnival (with less meltdowns) next time!
