Here’s the recap of our month of May–everything other than our trip to the beach:
Brooklyn and Savannah ate lunch outside on May 1st. They really enjoy doing that on days when the weather is nice, and I don’t mind having a quiet lunch inside occasionally either ;)
That afternoon, the doorbell rang, and Brooklyn ran to answer it. When we opened the door, no one was there, but this package with flowers and a bag of cookies was sitting on the doormat. We never figured out who left us such a nice surprise, but it definitely made my day! :)
Our house is ever-so-slowly coming together. I ordered a rug for the living room that I’d had my eye on for a few months, and it came at the end of April. I love how it gives the room a pop of color amidst all the brown/tan/gray.
Once we got the new rug, Abigail started hanging out in the living room more often rather than just in her room on the carpet. Prior to that, I hesitated to set her down on the hardwood because I didn’t want her to fall over and hit her head. I think she’s a fan of the new spot!
On May 3rd, Savannah had her 3 year checkup with Dr. Dudley. We followed that up with lunch at Firehouse Subs, our usual.
On May 4th, we ate supper at the Carvers’ house. They have 3 girls just like we do, and their older two go to the same school that Brooklyn will be going to soon. We really enjoyed the evening!
Travis trained for the Cotton Row 10K this month too, and he had a training buddy on some of his runs. Brooklyn rode her bike with him on three of his runs throughout the month. She REALLY enjoyed that special time with Daddy and hopefully it will be something they can do again in the future.
Off they go!
While Travis and Brooklyn were running/biking (and Abigail was napping) one Saturday morning, Savannah and I spent some time doing sidewalk chalk in the driveway.
It was nice to spend some quality time with just Savannah—that rarely happens!
Sunday, May 6th – Savannah was so tired when we woke her up from her nap to go back to church that she fell BACK asleep in the recliner before we got in the car…haha!
On May 7th, Clayton came over to spend the morning with us. He wasn’t too happy about it when his daddy dropped him off, but he was fine after a few minutes, and I think he had fun! We walked to the playground by the clubhouse, and the kids enjoyed being outside.
Clayton ate lunch with us before Douglas came to pick him up that afternoon. We enjoyed having him!
Abigail loves banana! It’s definitely one of her favorite foods :)
Somebody stole my phone again…
May 9th – the girls decided to set up a birthday party for Daddy in the dining room :)
They even drew him some pictures and hung them up by the table!
Brooklyn had been asking for a while if I would let her feed Abigail, so I finally let her give it a try. She did pretty well, and Abigail didn’t seem to mind a different person holding the spoon :)
Community lolli-pop!
She adores her big sisters :)
…and vice versa!
May 20th (after returning home from the beach) – “I like blueberries too!”
Oh, to be a kid again! Savannah definitely enjoyed that Fudgsicle…
We spent May 25th-27th at Smith Lake with my parents for Memorial Day weekend. There’s not much better in life than storytime with Paw!
…although swinging with Paw is probably up there at the top of the list too!
Saturday morning, we were ready for a boat ride!
Abigail tolerated her life jacket pretty well—I was surprised. The other girls hated wearing it when they were babies!
Boat rides always put the babies to sleep :) You can barely see Abigail’s head peeking up over her life jacket!
Paw took us down to Rock Creek Marina so that Brooklyn and Savannah could feed the fish. They had fun throwing crackers into the water and watching the fish come up to eat them. At $1 per bag of crackers, it’s pretty cheap entertainment! :)
Life at the lake is tough on a girl!
Some nearby neighbors let us borrow their paddleboat for a little while that afternoon; Rae Rae and Brooklyn took it out for a spin first, and then I pedaled it around with Brooklyn after that. Her legs weren’t long enough to help pedal, so it was a one-woman effort…but still fun!
Swimming with Paw :) Savannah didn’t want to get in the lake this trip, so she mostly hung out on the boat looking at books…
Bedtime stories and cuddles with Paw and Rae Rae :)
Sunday afternoon – ready for another boat ride!
Brooklyn never meets a stranger—the neighbors next door had a big pink flamingo float in the water that Brooklyn was interested in, so she convinced Rae Rae to swim over there with her to say hi/play for a little while. She just loves being around people and having fun!
Abigail is so ticklish—it’s a guaranteed way of making her smile and laugh!
We headed home from the lake Sunday night so that Travis could run the Cotton Row race early Monday morning. It’s become somewhat of an annual tradition with Matt and him. This year, Travis had some nagging leg pain leading up to the race and wasn’t able to train like he’d hoped to, but he was able to finish the whole 6.2 miles at least :)
After Travis got home from his run, we headed to the Childs’ house for a Memorial Day party. They have a big yard with horses and a playground, and even an arcade in their garage. We had a fun time!
Savannah was scared to go in the arcade at first (I think because it was dark in there), but she went in there eventually. She and Travis played pinball together and had fun!
Brooklyn was too busy playing with her friends to bother with the arcade…haha. I included this picture to show how much taller Natalie is than Brooklyn, and they are both going into kindergarten this year! Crazy…
Savannah drew a picture of our family :)
I’m not sure when this picture was taken exactly, but I think it was sometime during May. This was Brooklyn’s last month of doing Music Together with us since she’ll be in school from now on. When she realized it after the fact, she was so sad that she won’t be seeing Ms. Amie again…at least not on a regular basis. This fall, it will just be Savannah, Abigail, and me!
Sometimes while I take a shower or get ready in the bathroom, Abigail will hang out in our closet with some toys.
Even our room is decorated with Brooklyn’s artwork :)
Travis told Brooklyn that the moon was made of cheese, so she wanted to make her own moon to eat the next day ;) More on that in the notes below…
On May 31st, we went to the elementary school playground with a mom from our neighborhood and her kids. We’d connected on our neighborhood facebook group but hadn’t met in person until this playdate. I felt a little bit like it was a blind date…haha! I always feel awkward making small talk with people I don’t know, but Alison was so nice and easy to make conversation with. She has a son, Jacob, who will also be in kindergarten at Mill Creek, and her daughter Hannah is a few months younger than Savannah. The kids had fun, but the playground was super muddy from all the recent rain we’d had. Not sure the girls had ever been this dirty before! :)
When it was time to go, the girls rode home in their underwear and got straight in the tub…haha!
That night, they had fun playing in the backyard. I love that our backyard is shaded in the late afternoon/evening—definitely makes it more comfortable on warm nights.
Quotes and Notes from May:
- 5/5/18 – Brooklyn biked with Daddy while he ran (first time trying this). She biked 3.5 of the 6 miles! (Travis dropped her off at the house during the middle of the run). He said they got tons of comments about what a great job she was doing. They both enjoyed it!
- 5/6/18 – Abigail got her first tooth! I felt it Sunday afternoon just starting to pop through.
- 5/7/18 – Brooklyn biked almost 5 miles with Daddy! She did great!
- 5/10/18 – Brooklyn and Savannah were painting at the kitchen table while Travis was outside trimming after cutting the grass. When Savannah was finished, I asked her if she wanted me to put her shirt back on her so she could go outside (I’d taken it off so she wouldn’t get paint all over it). She replied, “Yes, so Daddy doesn’t get weeds all over my belly! That would be bad!”
- Savannah calls the Little Tikes picnic table that we have the “Sikes table” – she says “I want to eat at the Sikes table”.
- 5/20/18 – Savannah is really interested in red lights, green lights, and traffic lately:
- Savannah: There’s some traffic!
- Travis (kidding): I’m not stopping for that traffic.
- Savannah: I’m not surprised.
- Abigail’s 2nd tooth (bottom left) came in on May 29th.
- 5/30/18 – Yesterday at supper, Brooklyn announced that she wanted to go to the moon. Travis told her the moon was made of cheese, so the rest of dinner we spent talking about how we could get to the moon. Travis told her it would cost a lot of money to get there because rocket fuel is expensive. She told him to “go to work tomorrow and get some money, and the next day we’ll go to the moon.” We finally convinced her that she could make her own moon out of cheese, and it would be much more cost effective. So, this morning, first thing after breakfast, she got to work. I gave her a slice of American cheese, and she cut out a moon shape, drowned it in water (not sure why?), and added sprinkles and white chocolate chips on top…haha. Later on in the morning, she announced that “we’re going to eat the moon tonight after supper, and only people with teeth can have some. I said, “Well, Abigail has a tooth!” and she replied, “You have to have ALL your teeth to get some.” Haha! She also said she wanted to wait until Daddy got home to eat it because he really wanted to try it ;) Not so sure about that… :)
- 5/30/18 – Travis was getting Savannah ready for bed, and she instructed him, “You get the toothpaste. I’ll put it on the toothbrush. That’s the plan”. (This was in response to some miscommunication a few nights earlier in which Travis didn’t let her squeeze the toothpaste out, and she got her feelings hurt. I guess she wanted to make her wishes known tonight!).
On to the month of June!
