This post will cover the rest of the month of March…Brooklyn’s first ever spring break, our new favorite piece of furniture, and the start of soccer season. Here’s the recap:
Brooklyn had been asking us for a while when she could play soccer again. (She did Soccer Shots during the summer she was 3 years old and had a lot of fun.) This was our first experience with AYSO soccer at Dublin Park. The season started with some group practices with all of the 6U girls out there together before they divided up into teams. This was Brooklyn’s first group practice on March 16th.
Brooklyn loved playing “Red Light, Green Light” and “Sharks and Minnows”. They turned most of the drills into fun little games—right up Brooklyn’s alley.
It was a chilly morning, so we bundled Abigail and Savannah up in warm clothes…
Brooklyn was #57 this season :)
She had a great time at her first official practice of the season!
Not too long after we got home from the soccer fields, our new kitchen table and chairs were delivered! We had ordered everything back in January from Austin’s Furniture. They sell all kinds of furniture and even make some of it themselves. We were able to choose the dimensions of the table, the type of wood, stain color, type of legs, and everything. They even made a bench to match for us. We were so excited to finally get the table after waiting for about 7 weeks for it to be made.
It was definitely worth the wait! The table and bench are made of solid oak, so they should be durable enough to last for a long time (we hope!). We’d been wanting to get a new table for a while (we’d outgrown the glass table we had previously and were tired of how hard it was to keep it looking clean), and our goal was to find a new table that would last for years down the road. I think we found it!
The girls were excited to try it out for the first time when they ate lunch :)
Spring break was March 18th-22nd this year, and we were excited about a week off from the normal routine! We invited Carter to spend the night on Monday, March 18th. This was our first cousin sleepover attempt :) Alisha dropped him off that afternoon, and he spent time some playing outside with Brooklyn and Savannah while Abigail was napping.
It was a little tricky because we only have two helmets, so I was constantly having to rotate the helmets and make sure everyone got a turn on the bikes and scooter. (I don’t make them wear a helmet when they ride the tricycle, but they do have to wear it for everything else).
When your cousins are all girls, you get stuck with a pink helmet! Sorry, Carter! :)
We had plenty of room at the table for everyone to eat supper that night. Yay! Carter slept in Savannah’s room that night, and Savannah slept on the floor in Brooklyn’s room. Everyone went to bed just fine! They all woke up early, of course, but they were pretty good about playing quietly until it was a reasonable hour :)
Cousins in jammies are always cute!
After breakfast, we walked down to the neighborhood playground for a little while. It was a nice morning, and we had fun playing outside.
Abigail kept trying to show me pieces of mulch that she picked up off the ground :)
We had a fun time with Carter! It’s such a blessing to have cousins who are close in age that live nearby!
That night, Brooklyn had another soccer practice with all the 6U girls. She was really excited to go back and have fun out there again!
Brooklyn even drew a picture for her coach that said “I love you” on it :) (She didn’t realize that the 6U coordinator who was in charge of the practices wasn’t technically her coach, but I’m sure he still appreciated the picture!).
“If I wear this helmet, maybe they’ll let me ride a bike or scooter!” :)
Since it was spring break, the coordinator had several group practices that week and told the girls to come to any of them that they wanted to. Brooklyn was excited and wanted to go to a second practice, so I took her back on Thursday, March 21st.
She enjoyed the group cheer and the yummy Pop-Ice at the end of the practice!
Brooklyn had a great day (behavior-wise) on March 22nd and decided to try to take advantage of it. Her note said: “I was good. What will I get, Daddy? A present, or could I stay up and go get some ice cream? Very good, Brooklyn!” Haha!!
Later that day, we finally got this gallery wall DONE! It is hanging in the hallway that leads into our living room from the foyer. It was a big empty wall that needed something, and I’m really excited about how it turned out!
The 3 pictures on the bottom row are all newborn pictures of our girls, and our wedding picture is hanging in the top right corner :)
“I can brush my hair all by myself, Mom!”
Cici invited Brooklyn and Savannah to spend the night with her on March 22nd, and the next morning (after Brooklyn had another group soccer practice), the Loveless boys came over for a picnic lunch in her backyard.
It was a nice morning for some sidewalk chalk too! The girls had a great time :)
Brooklyn loves to pick up our cat, Gabby, and carry her around the house, but we thought she had accidentally hurt Gabby’s leg because she started limping a bit. Well, Brooklyn felt terrible, of course, and I found this card beside Gabby’s food bowl later…
It’s a picture of Brooklyn crying and walking Gabby on a leash. We’ve figured out that Brooklyn definitely loves to express herself through art and writing. I think this was her way of letting Gabby know that she felt bad about hurting her leg. (After a week or so, Gabby seemed to be fine again, so we don’t think it was a serious injury.)
Waiting for Sunday lunch to be ready at Cici’s (March 24th)
Abigail was ready to eat!! You almost can’t even see her behind all that food :)
Monday, March 25th was Brooklyn’s first day back to school after spring break, but first she had her 6 year old check up with Dr. Dudley. The appointment went well despite the two little distractions that accompanied us :)
Being silly at supper that night :)
Savannah rarely falls asleep during nap time anymore, but when she does, I almost always find her sleeping in an interesting position!
Brooklyn came home from school that day (Tuesday, March 26th) saying she didn’t feel good. She was running a little bit of a fever, so she had to miss her first soccer practice with her coach and teammates that night. Teams had been assigned a day or two before that, and she was looking forward to meeting everyone. It wouldn’t happen that night though :(
Gabby is such a good sport these days. She doesn’t mind being decorated with play food :)
Savannah always loves eating an Oreo!
Brooklyn was still feeling crummy on Wednesday, so she stayed home from school. She ran a fever off and on, didn’t feel like eating much, and was complaining of feeling achy all over. I assumed it was some sort of virus, so I didn’t rush her to the doctor that day.
She felt about the same on Thursday, so she missed another day of school…
…and I finally took her to the doctor on Friday. It was strep throat, y’all! If I’d just taken her to the doctor on Wednesday, she probably could have gone back to school on Friday and not had to miss her first soccer game on Saturday. I felt like such a big dummy, and I felt terrible that she was miserable longer than she had to be. I just assumed it was some kind of virus (maybe even the flu). We had just been for her checkup on Monday, and her throat was fine that day. Ugh! Live and learn…
Thankfully the antibiotic helped Brooklyn feel better pretty quickly, and the next day she was feeling well enough to play outside again. Yay!
Being the biggest sister means you get to be a teacher! Brooklyn enjoyed showing Abigail how to color with her new crayons…
Abigail did great at her first lesson :)
She may be growing up in many ways, but she’s still our little baby girl! This is a common scene on Sunday mornings…taking a nap in her daddy’s lap :)
Notes and Quotes from Late March:
- 3/27/19 – Abigail gets upset if she isn’t given the opportunity to put her milk cup in the fridge after lunch. She will cry and carry on, but as soon as you hand her the cup, carry her to the fridge, and open the door, she puts it in and is totally fine. She wants to be a big helper like her sisters, I guess!
- Savannah is always pretending to feed her stuffed animals at lunch. She “feeds” them a bite before she takes a bite herself ;) It’s cute!
- 3/29/19 – New words and phrases from Abigail lately: “milk”, “oh no”, “ow”, and “Rae Rae”
