The rest of October was filled with more soccer games, school happenings, and Halloween festivities. Here’s the recap:

On October 16th, we had Cici’s birthday lunch at our house, and the kids put on a Star Wars show for us in the playroom after we ate.

I liked this picture that Savannah drew in her journal on October 18th. It is a picture of her and a friend hanging upside down on the jungle gym at the school playground :)

Brooklyn’s soccer practices on Tuesday nights were on a new field at Palmer Park where we could park right beside the field. It was so nice, especially when it was cold outside, to be able to sit and watch from the car!

Savannah also wrote a journal about how kids shouldn’t have a set bedtime :)

October was Principal Appreciation Month at school, and Brooklyn’s class as well as one other 4th grade class were responsible for putting together an Auburn themed gift basket for Mr. Wilson, the principal at Mill Creek. We collected money from the parents in both classes and got him an Auburn tie and coffee mug as well as a gift card.

Brooklyn was my big helper pushing Abigail home in the stroller on October 19th :)

I love getting pictures of Abigail and her friends during bible class. They are all so sweet! :)

I turned 36 on October 20th, and Alisha took me and Abigail out to lunch at Luigi’s, and then we got pedicures afterward. It was so thoughtful of her, and I enjoyed the morning. We got our toes painted orange and blue for Payton. His visitation was later that evening, and his funeral was the next day. It was a really hard week. Now that I’m a parent, I can’t imagine losing one of my kids, no matter their age. Payton fought leukemia for almost 2 years, and he was an inspiration for his faith and courage during such a trial.

I opened the sweetest birthday gifts from the girls that night :)

Abigail and Savannah made these crayon animals for me. I loved their creativity!

On October 22nd, Abigail had her soccer game at 9 AM at Dublin 8. The girls had some special visitors today in addition to Cici…Mr. Phil and Gigi (Payton’s parents) came to watch. I think it did them some good to get out of the house, even though we kept telling them not to come if it would be too much.

Abigail played hard today and had some good kicks. She kept falling down when she was trying to kick it though. It was like she was kicking so hard that it just took her legs out from under her ;)

She also accidentally scored for the other team…haha. It seemed like she wasn’t feeling 100% but she’s been coughing and a little stuffy over the past day or two.

We went home to eat an early lunch before heading to Brooklyn’s game at 11:30 at Palmer 9. She played a great game today! She amazes me with her footwork and how well she dribbles.

During the second quarter, she dribbled the ball up the left side of the field and made a beautiful cross to the center in the front of the goal, and Campbell kicked it in for the first goal of the day.

The Warriors ended up winning 4-0. Brooklyn didn’t score but played great!

I had to leave at halftime to take Savannah to her game at 12:30 at Dublin 4. Everyone else came after Brooklyn’s game finished. Savannah’s team played Caroline’s team today, one of the best teams in the league.

It was a hard fought game! We were missing Alexa who was sick today. Savannah’s team ended up losing 4-3. Savannah ran hard and took a great corner kick today. She was upset that she let the other team score, but they were a really good team. It was exciting to watch!

Had to get a picture of Savannah, Gabriella, and Caroline. It turned out looking more awkward than it was because of the way they were standing so far from Caroline…haha. Glad they were still friends afterward despite the score ;)

Afterward, Gigi wanted to take the girls to Culver’s for some frozen custard, so we did that. It was so sweet of Phil and Gena to come and spend several hours of their Saturday with us, especially considering the circumstances.

Daddy gave free foot rubs to all the tired little soccer players that afternoon :)

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this in previous posts or not, but there was actually another Brooklyn on Brooklyn’s soccer team this season. At the first practice, Coach Theresa asked each of them to come up with an alternate name for everyone to call them during practices and games to minimize confusion. Our Brooklyn chose “Auburn”…because, yes, she is still an Auburn fan. I think she did it just to spite us…haha. Travis and I couldn’t bring ourselves to cheer for “Auburn” at her games….so we ended up calling her “B” instead. But her teammates, coach, and especially Phil (an Auburn grad) loved calling her Auburn ;)

The girls also spent some time that afternoon painting their pumpkins that they picked with Paw and Rae Rae over fall break…

Savannah made this for Abigail, and it made me smile :)

Red Ribbon Week is always the last week of October, meaning there are dress-up days every day at school. October 24th was Multiples Day, and I loved that Brooklyn and Savannah chose to twin with each other :) Savannah is an Alabama fan, but she will still wear her Auburn shirt from time to time.

That day was also Fire Safety Day at school. A lot going on!

There was a last-minute early dismissal at 12:30 pm on October 25th because of the threat of severe weather. Caroline’s mom texted me and asked if Caroline could come home with us for the afternoon because she was stuck at work and her husband was out of town. So we had an impromptu playdate for several hours!

The girls had a snack, played for a while, and watched part of a movie. Savannah was happy that Caroline was able to come!

This time of year, there are always plenty of leaves to make a big leaf pile along Mill Road on our walks home from school…

So Brooklyn, Savannah, Kate, Olive, and Chloe had a quick leaf fight on October 26th.

You just can’t get this during afternoon carline! ;)

Savannah did some wild painting in Seesaw after uploading her journal on October 27th, but I thought her story about the mail carrier who lost her mail was so cute. I loved how she started it out with “once a ponna” ;) That reminds me of how I used to watch TV shows as a kid and thought they were saying “Broctooyou” instead of “brought to you by [insert company name]…”

Savannah had her last practice of the season that night! It was hard to believe the season was already coming to a close.

October 28th was Career Day at school, the last day of Red Ribbon Week. Savannah chose to dress up as a baker, and Brooklyn dressed up as a zoologist.

I guess Abigail decided to be a zebra ;)

Brooklyn’s science teacher, Mrs. Davidson, invited me to come and help Brooklyn’s class (1st block) make “blood slime” that day. They had been learning about human anatomy, so they made blood slime with glitter and other things in it that represented the platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells. The kids all really enjoyed it!

Savannah wrote about her anticipation for her last soccer game of the season in her journal that morning. It definitely shows her competitive nature!

Emily and her kids met us at the Bradford Creek greenway that morning, and Abigail enjoyed scootering with Harper and Collins. It was a fun morning together, although I had it much easier than Emily with only one kid in tow instead of three.

That night, the girls dressed up in their Halloween costumes, and we went to the Teacher Treat Trail at school. This was our first time going to it, and it’s basically just a trick or treat event where some of the teachers line the main hallway in the school and pass out candy/trinkets. When we were trying to decide on costumes for this year, I suggested doing a bakery theme as a family, and the girls were all on board. I figure our days of dressing up as a family may be limited ;) But Brooklyn was excited about being a box of doughnuts since she’s a sugar-aholic!! And I found the cutest frappuccino costume on Amazon for Abigail. Savannah looked great as the baker too!

I had no idea how crowded it would be, but we had to wait in a long line outside the school just to get inside. While we were waiting in line, the girls got SO many comments about how cute their costumes were. They really were a big hit.

Because we didn’t get there right when it started, some of the teachers had run out of candy by the time we made it to them. But it was still so great to see our favorite teachers!! This is Mrs. Curry, Savannah’s kindergarten teacher.

Mrs. Pride, Savannah’s 1st grade teacher

Mrs. Borys, Brooklyn’s 2nd grade teacher :) It was a fun night! We also got to visit the book fair and let the girls shop for books, which they enjoyed too.

October 29th was a busy day! It was Savannah and Abigail’s last day of the fall soccer season. They each had one game, and Brooklyn had two. Brooklyn played in the local AYSO 498 tournament against the other Madison 10U girls teams. Her first game was at 9:15 at Palmer 8. I took Brooklyn and Abigail to Brooklyn’s game, while Travis took Savannah to her 9:30 game at Dublin 4. I hated to miss Savannah’s last game of the season, but one of us was going to have to.

Brooklyn played great in her game!! She scored the first 3 goals of the game, and her team ended up winning 5-0.

I loved this picture of Brooklyn’s teammate, Elani, giving her a big hug after one of her goals :) She played really hard and was excited that Rae Rae, Paw, and Cici were there to watch.

Savannah’s team took some pictures before their game :)

The Magical Mighty Unicorns had a great season!

Travis forgot to take any pictures of Savannah’s game itself, but he said it went well. Her team won, and Savannah scored two goals! Coach MJ said she played great defense too. Gigi and Mr. Phil were there for most of her game!

Abigail had a huge cheering squad at her 11:30 game with Cici, Rae Rae, Paw, Gigi, AND Mr. Phil! She scored a goal on a breakaway and we all cheered so loud.

Abigail got to play the whole game and was so happy. She did great!

The girls had the sweetest fans this season!!

Loved this one!

After Abigail’s game, her coach invited everyone to eat at Cici’s Pizza for lunch. 4 of the 7 girls were able to come…

Abigail was especially thrilled that Maddie came!

And Savannah was glad that Emma came.

It was neat to have these sister sets on the same teams this season!

I think it was my first time eating at Cici’s Pizza since I was a kid…haha. The girls were excited! Cici’s had a hard time at first churning out pizza as fast as everyone in the restaurant was eating it, but they finally caught up. After that, Paw and Rae Rae came back to our house to eat cookie cake and have a belated birthday celebration for me :)

A little while later, it was time for Brooklyn’s second game of the day at 5:15. This was a much closer game that ended in a 1-1 tie. We had several chances to score, but none of the shots went in except for one shot from Campbell. The girls found out when the game ended that they would be advancing to the championship game on Sunday at 2 pm, and they were so excited!!

Coach MJ and her girls came to the game as well as Phil and Gigi. Savannah and Abigail loved hanging out with Gabriella and Mia during the game. We also ate dinner at Freddy’s after the game with Phil and Gigi. Whew! It was a busy but great day.

I had to get a picture of Abigail’s cute “Anna braids” the next morning before church :)

Brooklyn’s team played in the tournament finals at 2 PM that afternoon. We hurried home after church and ate lunch and got ready for the game. It was an overcast, dreary day, but thankfully not too cold! Brooklyn’s team was playing Lilliana’s team (one of her former teammate’s on Coach Joe’s team) in the game. We had beat them 4-0 a couple of weeks ago, but this was a much closer game. It was definitely a nail biter.

Each team only had 7 players there, so no subs for either team. It was a pretty physical game. All the girls on both teams really wanted to win. We had lots of opportunities to score and quite a few corner kicks, but nothing went in until the last play of the game. Campbell took a corner kick and it bounced off the goalie and into the goal. Everyone jumped up and started cheering and screaming! The ref blew his whistle literally a few seconds later, and the game was over. We won 1-0 on the last play of the game!

I wish my phone took better pictures, but it was so sweet to watch the girls all do a big group hug after the game :)

All smiles when she walked off the field!

Brooklyn’s team played so hard and they did a great job out there. They were all so excited to be tournament champs!! They got medals at the concession stand after the game and took a team photo :)

One..two…three…WARRIORS!

We were proud of this girl and all her hard work!

We got home and had about an hour before we needed to head to the Hoods’ house for their Halloween party. The weather was dreary and overcast just like last year’s party, but I don’t think it was quite as cold which was nice. The girls wore their bakery themed costumes again, and this time, Travis and I joined in as Milk and Cookies :)

It’s fun to dress up every once in a while ;)

There were so many creative costumes! Cici, Tyler, and Alisha also joined our bakery theme. Cici’s bakery sign turned out so cute, and her “open/closed” headband was perfect!!

I also loved Wendy, Kaylee, and Ian’s costumes…they were a pumpkin spice latte. We had to get a picture of all the coffee costumes together :)

Everyone loved Abigail’s Frappuccino costume, and she ended up winning Cutest Costume (Individual). Savannah’s bakery won Best Overall Group Costume! We joked that this was our only shot to win since David and Juls and their kids were sick this year…haha. They always win everything!

This was my first year to sit and pass out candy at the Halloween party since we’ve had kids!! All of our kids are grown up enough to go through the line without me helping them…the end of an era.

The kids enjoyed playing games in the Hoods’ playroom downstairs…

…and spending time with their friends. We had a great time at the party!

Monday was Halloween, and the girls all wore a festive shirt to celebrate :)

We didn’t need any more candy by this point, but we still did traditional trick or treating around our neighborhood that night. Savannah was excited to watch for trick-or-treaters coming to our door before we left.

This year, we went with Emily’s crew down the street, and it was a lot of fun to go with friends!

We went up and down 3 of the 5 streets in our neighborhood. The girls got a big kick out of the jumping spider house. Brooklyn wanted to do all the spooky ones, and the other girls surprised me by being brave enough to check them out too. Abigail’s bucket got so heavy by the end that she wanted me to carry it…haha.

We ran into Gabriella and Mia and several other friends while we were out too.

It was a great evening, and not surprisingly, we had way too much candy by the time we finished!!
Notes and Quotes: Last Half of October 2022:
- 10/21/22 – We were eating vegetable soup tonight for supper, and Brooklyn asked me what the liquid was. I told her that one of the things in it was chicken broth. Then she asked, “What would you put something you wear in it?” She thought I said “chicken bra”! :)
- 10/22/22 – Brooklyn and Savannah were being silly, and Travis jokingly told Abigail to tell them to “nip it in the bud.” Abigail repeated, “Dip it in the bud!” :)
