Things have slowed down a little bit in the past couple of weeks, but we’ve found plenty to do to keep us occupied. One of these days, I need to do a “day in the life” post where I document everything that goes on in a day around here. I know that as the girls get older and our “normal day” changes, I’ll forget what life was like at this stage with the girls at the ages they are now. Life is loud (lots of squealing and crying), hectic sometimes, exhausting (many days), but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! Now, onto a recap of the last couple of weeks:
Brooklyn normally goes into her room for her nap around 2 PM every day, although many days she reads or plays in her bed for a while instead of going to sleep. Some days, she doesn’t sleep at all, but she really does better with a nap. When she doesn’t actually fall asleep until 3 PM or later though, she ends up sleeping until close to suppertime! This results in us having to wake her up :) I enjoy going in there and seeing her sleeping peacefully in her bed. On this particular afternoon, I caught Buzz sleeping on her shoulder ;)
Soccer Shots Day #2 (June 13th) – Brooklyn enjoyed running across the field with Nathan!
Brooklyn looks ready for action!
Brooklyn has fun out there, but she is definitely tired by the end! They ended up moving the time of the sessions up to 9 AM instead of 10 AM because it has been SO hot lately!
Red cheeks and sweaty hair!
With soccer from 9-9:45 AM now, we have a few minutes to kill before storytime starts at the library (at 10:30). Soccer practice is right outside by the library, so it works out well. The past 2 Mondays we have walked over to the playground for the kids to play while we wait for storytime to begin.
Savannah has done great at soccer so far! She doesn’t mind just sitting in the stroller…as long as she has food to eat! ;)
There is always a craft to do at the end of storytime, so that week they made a “square cat” since they read about a square cat in one of the books that day. I thought Brooklyn’s turned out cute!
On Tuesday, June 14th, we headed to Bridge Street with the Hoods and Lovelesses to play in the fountains and eat lunch. It was a fun morning! We ended up staying almost 2 hours! This was Savannah’s first time at the fountains :)
She didn’t really take any steps while we were there, but she crawled around a little bit and stood up. She didn’t get too close to the fountains, but maybe she’ll be more brave next time. That day, she was mostly concerned with eating food! :)
Brooklyn and Nathan always enjoy playing together!
We weren’t there for very long before all the kids decided they were hungry. We packed lunches, so they ate on the benches right next to the water.
Gabriel didn’t love the water, but he sure looked cute in his swimsuit and hat!
Savannah’s hair is slowly but surely getting longer, so one night, Daddy styled it into a nice looking mohawk after her bath!
I’m not sure why, but Brooklyn loves to play on our bed. Hiding under the pillows is always a fun game! Sometimes we even find her toys under the pillows at the end of the day :)
Bath time is loud and crazy these days! Savannah is always trying to stand up and throw toys out of the tub. They both love to splash and get Mommy wet. And Brooklyn always wants to play with whatever Savannah has. Fun times! :)
I came around the corner to find this one day. I’m just glad the table held her up and didn’t collapse!
Walking through the kitchen is usually a tripping hazard during the day ;)
These girls love their milk! Savannah has gotten so good at drinking from a sippy cup. She knows how to tip it up by herself, and she can even use Brooklyn’s cups without handles. I find her drinking from Brooklyn’s cups whenever she gets the chance ;)
Building towers! Savannah stacked those blocks all by herself. I was very impressed!
There goes that climber again…
Clap for Savannah! (She can also get down out of the walker with no problem…)
We went to Trussville last weekend for Father’s Day and had a great visit! We didn’t get down there until Saturday around lunchtime because I had to work late on Friday. But, we made the most of the time we were there. The girls always have fun playing in their backyard!
They have the best Paw who pulls them around in the wagon :)
While we were out in the backyard, we heard the popsicle truck coming through the neighborhood. We don’t have one that drives through our neighborhood, so of course we took Brooklyn out there for a special treat :) She got to pick out what she wanted, and she choose…
Sonic the Hedgehog!?
Yum Yum!
Pookie (Daddy’s nickname for Savannah) was getting tired by this point in the afternoon. If you see her rubbing/pulling her hair, it usually means she’s tired ;)
These girls are lucky to have such a great daddy!
Soccer Shots Day #3 (June 20th) – look at Nathan’s enthusiasm!
Doing “tick tock dribble”
“1…2…3…Team!”
Gabriel and Savannah enjoyed playing with rocks near the playground after soccer was over while we waited for story time to begin!
This girl and that yellow chair! She’s lucky that she hasn’t busted her head yet!
She has figured out that she can push it up to whatever she wants to climb up on…
“Hmmm….what’s in here?”
“…and how about in here?”
Last week on Tuesday morning, Alisha and Carter came over for a little while to hang out with us. We had a fun time! Alisha had to leave for a doctor’s appointment, so we played outside for a few minutes and then came inside for lunch and more fun.
Nobody really cared about the sprinkler but Brooklyn…
Carter enjoyed hammering the door in our kitchen. And Brooklyn made sure to wear her safety goggles while they were “fixing things”, of course! :)
That night, we went on a walk around the neighborhood. Brooklyn insisted on pulling Savannah rather than riding, so I let her. She pulled her all the way down the hill, around the cul-de-sac, and pretty far up the road toward Nick Davis. I was impressed!
Then, she got tired and I pulled them both back home up the hill :)
When we got home, Brooklyn wanted to blow some bubbles. Savannah thought it was fun when Brooklyn blew them toward her!
Sometimes, more yogurt ends up in the hair than the mouth ;)
Brooklyn came out of Bible class on Wednesday night saying she’d written her “letters”…haha! I’m sure one of the teachers wrote the “B” and then she added the rest of the “letters” after that ;)
I love this girl!
Savannah took her first unassisted steps on June 8th (just about 1.5 weeks over 13 months old). She was in our bathroom looking in one of the drawers when Brooklyn came along and closed the drawer. Out of nowhere, Savannah took 2 steps to the cabinet! Every time before that, she would just drop to the floor and crawl over. Yay, Savannah! That same night, she took 2 steps to me in Brooklyn’s room. Ever since then, she has gotten better and better at walking. She can now walk several steps in a row without falling (up to 10-15 at a time sometimes!). She is still crawling some, but she’s probably walking about half of the time. She has also figured out how to stand up from the floor without pulling up. She’s come a long way in a couple of weeks!
Friday night, we went over to Cici’s house to pick squash and cucumbers in her garden while Cici was out of town. Brooklyn was such a good helper!
Travis picked the squash and cucumbers and left them on the ground. Then, Brooklyn came along and put them in a bag. She had fun!
Savannah had fun “picking” grass! :)
Big girl!
It’s so weird to see them standing up side by side like this. Love these two!
The spoon is just for looks :)
Brooklyn and I got our hair cut yesterday, and the stylist offered to french braid Brooklyn’s hair when she was done. I thought it looked so cute! I really need to learn how to do that myself :)
Other Notables:
- This is how fast things can happen around here: One night after supper, Brooklyn needed to go potty, so we told her to go to the bathroom and shut the door behind her. No more than 2 minutes later, Travis went to check on her. The door was open, and to his surprise, there was no urine in the potty…it was all over the floor beside the potty. Savannah had crawled though the urine, was standing up on the step stool at the sink, and was trying to eat soap out of the soap dispenser. And Brooklyn was slip sliding around the floor in the puddle. It’s amazing what can happen in such a short period of time! ;)
- We were talking about how Carter was going to be in Josh and Jana’s wedding, and Brooklyn asked, “Is Carter going to be a flower boy?”
- Last time at Baugay’s for lunch: Brooklyn reported, “Carter is in the ‘brokeable’ room!’” She loves to be the police and inform us about what Carter is doing that he shouldn’t be…haha!
- One day recently, Brooklyn didn’t want Savannah to play with her Mickey Mouse tools. Her excuse: “Savannah doesn’t need to play with the tools. They’re grown-up tools, and I don’t want her to get hurt by them.” Haha!
That’s all for now!

Hmm… remember a certain aunt that French braided all of the nieces hair?? ?❤️?
Yes! Why don’t you come to the beach this year with us and teach me how!? :)
