Halloween 2015

This year, we did something a little different for Halloween. Since the holiday fell on a Saturday, we decided to drive down to Trussville for Brooklyn to trick-or-treat in Paw and Rae Rae’s neighborhood. (They just moved into a new house earlier this year, and Mom had heard that it was a really good neighborhood to trick-or-treat in.) Since we very rarely even have a single trick-or-treater at our house (so sad!), it just worked out well all around.

So, last Saturday, we drove down to Trussville after getting Savannah’s 6 month pictures made with Carla in Athens. The forecast called for rain that afternoon/evening, but luckily that didn’t put a damper on our Halloween fun. Their neighborhood is definitely the place to be on Halloween if you want to get a real trick-or-treating experience!

We had some fun inside after we got to their house. Savannah was just starting to sit up better on her own at this point :)

The girls had their festive outfits on, of course!

Watching the Lion King in Paw’s office is always a must-do!

It started raining around 4 or 4:30 that afternoon, so we decided to get the girls in their costumes early so that we could take Brooklyn trick or treating before it started raining too hard. We left the house around 5 PM even though it wasn’t dark yet, but we weren’t even the first ones out there. I think it was actually better to go when it was still light outside because it was raining and Brooklyn was having a hard time seeing with her costume on anyway ;)

Without further ado,

Clearly, they were very excited to get their pictures taken. Let’s just get to the candy part, Mom!

Savannah stayed at home with Paw and Rae Rae while Travis and I took Brooklyn around the neighborhood…

…and we’re off! Daddy was so sweet to carry an umbrella around for her :)

It never poured down rain, but I was glad we had umbrellas and rain jackets :)

I think this may have been Brooklyn’s first time to ever ring a doorbell. At the first house, I’m pretty sure she rang it two or three times. Whoops :) She was very shy at our first stop, but caught on quickly after that. At several houses, the person would open the door, and Brooklyn would exclaim, “Thank you!” instead of “Trick or Treat!” Haha! At least she was being polite :)

Paw and Savannah joined us after we’d been to several houses. She seemed like she enjoyed being out and about!

The houses in their neighborhood are pretty close together, so we were able to hit 10-15 houses pretty quickly. Then we called it a night! I was amazed at how many houses had Halloween decorations out. At one house, the people had made a haunted house in their garage and were making popcorn and cotton candy for everyone. It was pretty crazy! Definitely a much better experience than we would have gotten at home :)

Back at Paw and Rae Rae’s, we dumped out Brooklyn’s bucket to see what she got. It wasn’t a full bucket, but it was plenty for a 2 year old! We only went up and down one street, but if we’d gone all over the neighborhood, we would have gotten a ton more.

It was just starting to get dark at this point, and Rae Rae had already passed out a bunch of candy. We all hung out on the front porch for a while because it was just a constant stream of kids coming and going. A lot of the neighbors were waiting on their porches too. Easier than coming to the door every 10 seconds I guess!

Brooklyn seemed to enjoy waiting on the porch and passing out candy almost as much as she liked collecting it herself :)

She took her job very seriously! She asked several kids, “Do you want some candy??” (I’m sure they were thinking “Duh, why else would I be here?”) But, it was really cute! She even tried to pass out candy to the adults that brought kids around. She didn’t want anyone to feel left out :)

Trick or treat!

Of course, she needed some quick energy to help her pass out all that candy ;)

Mom thinks they had at least 150 trick or treaters, and I bet there would have been even more if it hadn’t been raining. She’d bought a lot of candy, but even what she had wasn’t enough. We ran out at about 7:30 I think :)

Brooklyn had a great time and didn’t seem to mind wearing her costume this year (unlike last year). Hopefully we can trick or treat with Paw and Rae Rae again another year! I know Savannah will enjoy it in a couple of years too :) Hope you had a happy Halloween too!
