Brooklyn family friends lake Savannah

Fourth of July Weekend

We had a busy weekend over the 4th! Friday the 1st, I worked a 12 hour shift, and Travis stayed home with the girls. That night after work, I came home, ate a quick supper, and we let the girls play in the backyard for a few minutes before bedtime._DSC9452

Savannah really started walking more this weekend than she had been before that. By the end of the weekend, she was walking everywhere and not crawling really at all! I was impressed at how well she walked in the backyard for the first time—up and down the yard over uneven ground. She fell a lot, but she kept getting back up!

It’s no wonder why Savannah gets frustrated with her big sister sometimes; Brooklyn doesn’t exactly know the definition of personal space ;)

That Saturday, we had TWO parties to go to! In the morning, we went to Ellie’s birthday party at the Carvers’ new house off County Line Road. She was turning 4! I was so impressed that Leah pulled off a party at their house when they’d moved in just a week earlier. I didn’t take any pictures when we were there, but everything was so cute. They served brunch with a waffle bar and toppings…yum! Brooklyn had a blast! The kids played in the backyard on the swing set and trampoline, and they threw water balloons at the end of the party. Brooklyn thought that was great! She’d never seen water balloons before :) She got to bring home a bag of candy too from the pinata, so she was a happy girl!

Leah posted this picture on Facebook–typical Brooklyn right in the middle of the action ;)

We went home and attempted to get the girls to take naps before the next party, but it was a major fail. Neither one wanted to sleep—I don’t think Savannah slept at all (because she got a cat nap at the birthday party), and Brooklyn fussed and refused to sleep at all until right before it was time to leave. Of course! So, we ended up letting her sleep, and we were just a little late to the Hesters’ and Renfrows’.

This 4th of July cutie was a little fussy that day! (Cici made the girls these super cute hair bows for the occasion—I loved them!)

The 4th of July party that afternoon was a lot of fun! The Hesters and Renfrows always go all out, and this year was no exception. There was a slip n’ slide, water guns, all sorts of other games, and delicious BBQ. I didn’t get any pictures (I was exhausted by this point in the day), but Brooklyn had a blast! She jumped on the trampoline, did the slip n’ slide once (I’m not sure she liked it…haha), and enjoyed playing with the other kids that were there. The only thing she didn’t want to do was eat much supper. Typical ;) We left the party after a couple of hours and headed straight to the lake to hang out with my parents for the rest of the weekend!

While we were at the lake, Charlie got a bath! Brooklyn enjoyed helping with that :)

Savannah enjoyed throwing Charlie’s tennis ball around the porch :)

Brooklyn was a big helper making the annual “flag pie” with Rae Rae this year!

If you notice the random blueberries scattered among the strawberries, those were Brooklyn’s contribution…haha ;)

Licking the Cool Whip bowl is always fun! Brooklyn wanted to put the little American flag in the pie at the end too :)

Time for a boat ride!

I feel like it was just yesterday that Brooklyn was wearing this cover-up, but it was TWO summers ago! Crazy!

Savannah got a good nap in while we were riding on the boat. Something about a loud motor and the rocking motion puts a girl right to sleep! I didn’t get any pictures of this (because I stayed on the boat while Savannah was asleep), but we went to the Rock Creek marina and the rest of the fam got off the boat to feed the fish! They have big carp and catfish that hang out around the dock there, and you can buy crackers to feed them. I heard that Brooklyn really enjoyed that!

Rae Rae completely made Brooklyn’s weekend by giving her a bunch of Toy Story toys that she bought off a yard sale site. When Brooklyn opened the bag, she was speechless and fell on the ground she was so excited. It was a priceless reaction! The toys are staying with Paw and Rae Rae, so they will be a special treat to play with each time we visit!

Savannah is getting a little more interested in books these days; she likes to turn the pages at least!

Real life with a 3 year old and 1 year old! I wanted to get a picture of both girls together with their hair bows, but this is what I got…haha!

That night when we got home, people were shooting fireworks all over our neighborhood. Paw and Rae Rae gave us a few sparklers to take home, so Brooklyn got to do her very first sparkler that night. I didn’t get any pictures (only a video), but she thought it was great and enjoyed waving it around!

After we got Savannah in bed that night, we realized that we were being treated to a fireworks show right across the road from our house! So we laid down on the floor in Brooklyn’s room and watched for a few minutes before we tucked her in. It was great—watching fireworks in your PJs in the air conditioning is the way to do it! :)

Hope you had a happy 4th of July too!
