Since I am updating this blog so infrequently these days (boo!), I have to resort to recapping several weeks worth of activities at a time. I know I’m leaving things out, but I guess you just have to do the best you can. I know I’ll appreciate reading these updates one day down the road when the girls are older and I’ve forgotten what life was like with two littles.
Big news – Travis and I have been running lately! We are running the Liz Hurley Ribbon Run next Saturday, so we decided we better start “training” for it. Bad news – we are REALLY out of shape. I hope it’s just the fact that we haven’t been exercising regularly and not the fact that we are creeping closer and closer to the big 3-0 ;)
In my opinion, you haven’t really lived until you get rammed straight in the nose by the head of your always-too-energetic toddler while you’re faking being asleep. On a Saturday morning. At 6:30 AM. Yep…didn’t see that one coming. I wouldn’t be surprised if my nose is broken. It didn’t bleed, and it isn’t crooked…but it definitely popped and felt weird afterward. It’s also good motivation to hurry up and get our mattress off the floor and up on a frame. I doubt she would have been able to ram me like that if the bed was at a normal height. What a way to start my morning! :)
You wouldn’t know it by looking at her sweet face, but her favorites activities right now are throwing things at people and running into people/things full steam. Not exactly model citizen behavior :/ Part of the problem is that she doesn’t understand when she hurts someone. Ex. After she rammed my nose and I was moaning and groaning about it, she asked so innocently, “What happened to you, Momma?” Well, I wonder!
She loves to pretend to sleep in our bed. I’m sure she’ll be sad when it’s not so easy to climb and jump on. We are hoping to put the boxspring and frame together in the next few days. I’ve got my eye on some bedding from Macy’s, so once it goes on sale again, I’m planning to order it. Can’t wait for a new look for our room! We’ve had the same bedding since we got married almost 8 years ago :)
Brooklyn has gotten a lot better at smiling for pictures lately. It’s still a challenge to get her to be still and catch both girls smiling at the same time though!
Funny faces!
They love each other!
I’m so sad that this picture turned out blurry. I took it with my phone :( I love to see them interacting and smiling at each other!
“My sis makes me…smile, giggle, HAPPY!” I got their shirts for super cheap from Children’s Place with free shipping :)
Mom got this double stroller for FREE from someone who was just wanting to get rid of it. This was our first time trying it out on a walk around the neighborhood :)
Aunt Alisha and Carter joined us!
These girls love snuggling with their daddy! (and I love how you can see Sister smiling through her paci…)
These two were asleep on the couch when I got home from work on Friday :)
Watching football together
Reading a Bible story before bed :)
They also love their Rae Rae, who came to see us on Thursday and deliver some winter clothes she bought at consignment sales. Thanks, Rae Rae!
One of her finds was this snowsuit for Brooklyn. When she saw it, she wanted to try it on immediately :) Too bad it was 80 degrees outside that day! We’re hoping for a good snow this winter so she can put it to good use!
On Sunday, we went out to eat at Logan’s with Tyler, Alisha, and Carter. Brooklyn loved the “roll restaurant”! Who doesn’t love those rolls? :)
Poor Sister isn’t quite big enough to try a roll. Maybe in a few more months! ;)
Last Saturday, Matt, Maggie, and Korah came over to watch the Georgia game with us. We were all surprised that we won the game so easily! Korah is getting so big…just like her little friend. We had fun catching up with them for a few hours!
The babies hung out in the kitchen for a few minutes together during halftime :)
Pictures were a little harder to come by this time ;)
They were more interested in grabbing each other’s headbands than smiling for the camera!
Poor Korah…
It looks like she’s thinking…”Mom, what are you letting her do to me??”
Oh, Savannah :)
Then, we tried putting Brooklyn in the middle, but by that point, Savannah was tired of pictures :) Better luck next time, right?
Brooklyn loves to help “stir” in the kitchen these days. She really is a great helper (when she wants to be)! She brings me burp cloths, helps pick up her toys, etc. Of course, she has her moments when she doesn’t want to, but a lot of times she does what we ask with a good attitude or even asks us if she can help. I’m very proud of her for that!
Brooklyn enjoys holding Sister every once in a while too. I think Sister likes it too…so much that she kicked her legs up in the air!
Brooklyn has been struggling with staying still lately. She has gotten in trouble in Bible class several times lately for not staying in her seat. One night she got up and started running around the classroom! Then, one day last week at the library, she would not sit still during story time. She was crawling in between all the kids, taking off her socks and shoes, not paying attention to the stories, and just being a big distraction to the other kids. But, she refused to sit with me either. So…we ended up leaving early and making a huge scene. I tried not to look at anyone as I dragged her out of the library crying :) We were planning to go to the playground after storytime, but we ended up going straight home. I think I made my point though because she talked all week long about how she wasn’t good at the library and she couldn’t play at the playground. Maybe next time will go better! :)
We are excited about Halloween coming up! We are planning to trick or treat in Paw and Rae Rae’s neighborhood. Should be fun!
Other Brooklyn notables:
- She has started to understand directions – “right” and “left”. We will ask her while we are driving, and she can usually tell us which way we are turning – right or left.
- We recently checked out the lobster tank at Publix, and as we were heading down an aisle afterward she was talking about how the “monsters” were fighting with each other. I guess lobster kinda sounds like monster!
- Brooklyn has started using the big girl potty a little bit more this week. She has tinkled in it at least once every day for the past few days and even pooped in it once. She is getting one or two M&Ms as a reward and likes to pick out which color she wants. I told her we would go pick out big girl panties at the store soon and she seemed excited. She is also asking lots of interesting questions about her bathroom habits. One day she asked me if her poop could play with blocks or if her tinkle could color a picture. Ha!
- This week, we saw the mailman on our street when we were coming home from the grocery store. She asked, “Is that the mail man?” Yes. “Is he going to come to my house?” Yes. “Can he come play with my blocks?” No, I think he’s working right now. He can’t play with blocks today. “Okay, maybe another time.” :) She thinks everyone is her friend…haha!
That’s about all I can think of for now! Hope you’re having a great weekend so far – watch out for those nose rammers! ;)
