If you want to know where I’ve been the past couple of weekends, your best guess would be “in the car”. I’ve only spent one weekend at home since the first of May, and it’s showing by the lack of blogging I’ve been doing lately. With all of this traveling, I spend my weekdays either catching up on stuff around the house (in between chasing Brooklyn around) or just taking a moment to relax and not do anything at all :)
We actually spent the weekend after Memorial Day at home, and it was really nice! Emily was in town, and she came over on Saturday for a little while to hang out with Brooklyn while Travis and I hung some new light fixtures in our dining room and breakfast area. We are in the process of replacing almost every light fixture in our house (including flood lights and other lights outside), and so far we’ve gotten 3 done. When I say “we”, I mean “Travis”. I’m just the lovely assistant who hands him the tools. So long, ugly gold dining room chandelier! I actually sold it for $20, and I made $15 on the ceiling fan that used to be in our breakfast area. Yay!
Good riddance!
Much better!!
Who puts a ceiling fan in their breakfast area anyway?
Not us! :)
We also celebrated Alisha’s and Travis’s birthdays that weekend too. Travis turned 28 last Thursday, which means 28 isn’t too far around the corner for me either… :)
Brooklyn with the birthday boy!
Speaking of Brooklyn, she has been a busy bee this summer already. She is always on the go! When it’s not raining, we have fun playing outside and exploring. When we are inside, she LOVES to read. I find her looking at books all the time, and she loves to bring me a book to read to her. That’s one of my favorite times of the day, and it’s about the only time she’ll sit still in my lap.
She loves to wave at Daddy while he cuts the grass!
Checking out the flowers on our hydrangeas
She never sits down…
…except when she’s reading! The basket behind her has all of her books in it, and I catch her sitting over there looking at books a lot.
Brooklyn tried her first shaved ice a few weeks ago at Noah’s baseball game. Brady was so sweet to buy it for her, and then she only ate a couple of bites :/ We’ll have to teach her better manners around that boy!
One day this week, she was carrying around my lunchbox like a purse, waving at me, and saying “bye!” Apparently, she had places to go :)
She loves to suck her thumbie in the car :)
She is practicing using a spoon to feed herself, and she’s definitely improving! It’s still pretty messy though…
Big bite!
As of June 1st, Brooklyn was officially weaned from “mommy milk”. The first night that she didn’t nurse, she cried a little bit when we didn’t sit in our usual chair, but every night since then, she’s done fine. Instead of nursing, her bedtime routine is now: take a bath, put on PJs, drink milk/eat a small snack, brush teeth, Bible story, and then bedtime. It’s been a really easy transition for both of us, and I’m so glad. I was really dreading it and pretty sad on the 31st, but it hasn’t been too bad.
The reason that I decided to wean Brooklyn then was because of Jenn’s bachelorette trip to the beach this past weekend. I wanted to go ahead on stop nursing a few days before the trip just to make sure she could handle it, and to make sure I wouldn’t be too uncomfortable. Luckily, we both did fine!
The trip was a lot of fun! Friday morning, I drove Brooklyn down to Trussville where she stayed with Gramps and Rae Rae for the weekend. Then, I met Jenn and a couple of other girls and we headed down to Destin. It was a quick trip! We were only down there from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, but it was still fun.
Sunset on the beach Friday night…it was so pretty and perfect weather outside!
We spent Saturday at the beach. It was another beautiful day…so sunny and no clouds! Unfortunately, I got sunburned even though I kept putting on sunscreen all day :(
Saturday night, we had Jenn’s lingerie shower. She got so many cute things!! :)
Can’t believe my sister is getting married a month from today!! Eeekk!!
I didn’t get back to Trussville until about 9 PM on Sunday night, but luckily Brooklyn was still awake when I got there. She was happy to see me! She did great the whole weekend though. She went to the park, got frozen yogurt at Yogurt Mountain, rode around in a wagon on the driveway, and had lots of fun. I guess she didn’t miss us too much! I’m glad she did well though. Thanks Mom and Dad for keeping her!! Travis and I both enjoyed a little break for the weekend :)
I decided we would just spend the night Sunday night since it was so late and drive back home on Monday morning, so that’s what we did. Monday morning, I was packing up our stuff and found this in the kitchen…
Somebody had to sneak a few Nilla wafers in before we left!! :)
I love my little cookie monster!!
One reply on “Oh, Hello Again!”
She’s going to be a little “bookworm” like her mommy!!!!!
