2nd Grade 4th Grade Abigail Brooklyn fall Savannah

First Half of October 2022

October was a full month, and I took a lot of pictures, so I am going to split up the recap into two posts. Here’s what we were up to for the first half of the month:

October 1st was another Soccer Saturday, and Abigail played first at 9 AM on Dublin 2. She was very excited that Mr. Mike came to see her play!

She ran hard and did her best out there. I didn’t keep score, but Travis was pretty sure the other team scored more goals. Abigail didn’t score today but was tough and got right back up when she got knocked down. She’s usually one of the smallest ones out there, but she doesn’t know that ;)

Savannah’s game was supposed to be at 12:30 but got rescheduled to 9:30, which worked out better for us since we were already at Dublin. Her game was on field 4, as usual. The other team only had 3 players there since it was the first weekend of fall break. We loaned a different player to them each quarter. They were probably one of the best teams we’ve played this year! We definitely won because the other team didn’t score, but it was closer than usual. Savannah played great defense and got a couple shots on goal that didn’t go in.

Savannah played for the other team (in red) in the 4th quarter, and Gabriella accidentally kicked the ball right at Savannah’s face. It hit her cheek, and she didn’t cry at all. Right after that she dribbled down and almost scored. She actually had a couple of chances to score for the red team that didn’t go in. The Unicorns scored in every quarter except the 4th quarter when Savannah was playing against them ;) She takes defense very seriously!

Mr. Mike came to all three of the girls’ games that day…so sweet of him!!

Brooklyn’s team played at 11 at Palmer 1, so we had just enough time to get there. Our team only had 6 players, but so did the other team, so it was okay. We were missing a couple of key players though, and so we lost in a very lopsided way.

I lost track of how many goals the other team scored. Brooklyn scored the only goal for the Warriors. She tried her best, but she got worn out very quickly (so did all the girls) with no subs and only 6 players. She was upset after the game, but we tried to encourage her that she did her best and that’s all she can control!

By that afternoon, Travis and Abigail were worn out! :)

Leslie sent me this cute picture of Audrey with a bunch of the kids after church on October 2nd.

The first week of October was fall break at school, and the girls went to “Paw and Rae Rae camp” for a few days that week. Abigail made her bed and put her stuffed animals neatly on top that morning to get ready to go.

The girls asked if they could have a picnic lunch outside before we left to meet Paw and Rae Rae too. It was a nice day for it!

As always, the girls had a great time with Paw and Rae Rae…

On October 4th, they took the girls to a pumpkin patch in Hayden.

They got to see a lot of different farm animals…

…play on the inflatables…

…go on a hay ride…

…and pick out their own pumpkins!

One of their favorite parts of the day was meeting a cat who lived there named Charlie. He was up for adoption, and the girls still talk about him months later as being the best cat.

They also loved getting a fried pie for a snack :)

Another fun activity at Paw and Rae Rae camp was decorating Halloween cookies…

They had a fun few days at “camp”, and we enjoyed a few days of peace and quiet too…

…but we were also glad to have them back home!

Friday, October 7th was the last day of fall break, and we got together with Emily and her girls for a little while that day. The girls all biked/scootered to the greenway. It was nice to get outside together!

My girls always want to get in the creek anytime we get near it ;)

We finished off our time together with a snack outside on the swingset. We always love spending time with Elaina, Bristol, and Addie!

On October 8th, we had FOUR soccer games because Savannah had a doubleheader. Brooklyn’s game was up first at 8:30 at Palmer 1. We all got to watch the first half, and then Savannah and I needed to leave to get to her first game. The other team jumped out to an early lead, but they never scored again. Brooklyn’s team scored one goal in the 4th quarter to end it in a 1-1 tie. Travis said Brooklyn played great. She played all the positions except goalie.

Savannah’s team had games at 9:30 and 10:30 at Dublin 4. Both games were against teams we hadn’t played yet this season…

Savannah’s team won the first game 6-0. Savannah scored the first goal of the game! She hasn’t scored much this season, so she was excited.

The second game was much closer…the final scored ended up being 5-3. The other team scored 2 goals when Savannah was subbed out, and the other goal when her cleat came off ;) She was not happy…she doesn’t like for the other team to score at all. She also scored 3 goals this game.

She told us after the game that one of the girls, Mary, on the other team goes to her school, and Mary was telling Savannah during the game that Savannah was “wasting her time kicking the ball out when she could be scoring goals.” Haha! We told her that Mary must have been getting frustrated by Savannah’s great defense and not to let it bother her ;)

It was an intense game! We will play this team two more times this season, so we’ll see how the rematches go.

Abigail played last today on Dublin 8 at 11:30. She scored two goals today and was very excited!

Her coach says she has a “thunder kick.” On one of her goals, she was kicking it in from the sideline and it rolled all the way into the goal without anyone else touching it…haha! She had fun and ran hard today. They only played 5 minute quarters, so it felt like the game was over right after it started!

Travis almost never pulls out his phone to take a picture unprompted, but he was amused by Gabby and her paw hanging over my arm and took this while we were sitting on the couch. She sits in my lap frequently at night after the kids go to bed :)

Abigail had soccer practice on October 11th. She looked forward to practices and games each week!

This isn’t a great picture, but I happened to see it in a newsletter that was emailed to us. This is Brooklyn and her classmates playing their recorders in music class.

October 12th was a random half day of school, and it was also the day before Rock Your School day. It worked out well to give parents and teachers extra time that afternoon to get the classrooms and hallways decorated. This year’s theme was Inside Out. I covered the desks in Mrs. Prevatt’s classroom in colorful paper and garland, and the other two room moms took care of the other decorations…

I thought her door turned out so cute!!

The balloon garland and boxes also looked amazing! Jodie and Amy did a fantastic job!

I also helped decorate Ms. Kuenzli’s classroom for RYS Day. She wanted to do a green theme since she was going to be dressing up as Disgust. It definitely looked very green when we were done…haha!

I sent in a green snack for Savannah’s class to eat the next day…green apples, green grapes, cucumbers, frog gummies, and green Hawaiian punch!

All of the kids at Mill Creek were supposed to think of a “core memory” from the school year so far…

…and Savannah chose Grandparents Day when Rae Rae came to her classroom! I thought that was so sweet :)

Ms. Kuenzli shared several pictures from their fun day…

There are 4 second grade classrooms in portables behind the school (they call them “cottages”), and so the kids rotated around to each classroom throughout the day. In Ms. Kuenzli’s classroom, they made slime!

This picture was taken in Ms. Soles’ room!

In Ms. Hasting’s room, they had a race to set which table could make the longest paper chain :)

The whole school was decorated like Inside Out, and it looked great!

“Rock Your School is a Core Memory Day” :)

It sounded like a really fun day! :)

Ms. Dixon shared this picture of Brooklyn and her class from RYS Day. Looks like they were having a glow party/math lesson :)

“Take our picture with Woo-ie (Gabby)!”

It worked out so nicely that Abigail and Madison were on the same soccer team because Madison is Emma’s younger sister (Savannah’s teammate). So Madison and Abigail could play together during their big sisters’ practices! They had a blast most weeks chasing each other around and playing soccer on the nearby field.

Brooklyn’s teacher, Mrs. Prevatt, had her last day at school on October 21st before her maternity leave started. We collected money from the parents in the class and were able to give her $300 in Amazon gift cards!

The girls have never been too interested in my makeup drawer, but Abigail did try to put on some lip shimmer stuff one morning when I was getting ready…

She had a nice pink mustache when she was done! :)

Then, she fell asleep in the stroller on the way home from school when we picked up Brooklyn and Savannah ;) Sweet memories I always want to remember!

Travis ran with a couple of friends (both named Matt) on October 15th…

The girls’ soccer games on the 15th were all overlapping, so Rae Rae came up to help us. Paw was planning to come too, but he ended up sick and wasn’t able to come. I took Brooklyn to her game at 9:45 at Palmer. Her team played a team they’d played earlier in the season.

Brooklyn’s team won either 6-2 or 7-2, I’m not sure. Brooklyn scored two goals today and had several other shots too. She did a great job of hustling to the ball and dribbling. Something that she can improve on is not holding onto the ball too long and looking to pass to her teammates and get them involved. She sat out in the second quarter, but otherwise played the whole game at midfield and defense.

Rae Rae took Abigail to her game at Dublin 7 at 10 AM…

Abigail said she had fun and “didn’t know” if she scored any goals…haha. She said she kicked the ball away from the other team though.

Savannah’s game was at 10:30 on Dublin 4. Her team played the same team from last Saturday’s doubleheader that they barely beat.

This week, the game ended in a 5-5 tie. The other team had several players back from fall break that were really good.

Savannah ran hard and did her best and wasn’t too disappointed after the game, which I was glad about.

That afternoon, Savannah went to Chloe’s birthday party and had a fun time!

And that evening, we saw Charlotte’s Web at the Fantasy Playhouse with Cici, Alisha, and the boys. It was a really great show! Brooklyn and Abigail said their favorite character was Templeton (the rat), and Savannah liked Uncle (the big pig) best. Abigail was literally sitting on the edge of her seat during the play. It was really cute to see and hear the kids’ reactions to what was happening on stage.

The “big kids” sat together on one row…

…and the “little kids” sat on the row in front of them. We all really enjoyed the show!

Notes and Quotes from October 2022 (first half):

  • 10/7/22 – The girls decided that today was Sister Appreciation Day, so they made cards and notes for each other and did nice things for each other. I loved that idea!
  • 10/8/22 – We had college football on while we were eating dinner tonight, and Brooklyn asked, “What is Ooo-Cla?” She was trying to pronounce UCLA :)
  • 10/10/22 – Abigail has started patting and rubbing my arm when I am concentrating on something because she says I look mad and she’s trying to make me feel better. Haha!
  • 10/10/22 – The girls biked/scootered 6.5 miles with Travis while he was running tonight!! I never thought they would make it that far, especially Abigail, but they proved me wrong!!
  • 10/12/22 – Abigail was complaining about the cereal choices this morning before breakfast, and I pointed to one that I thought she liked and asked, “How about this one?” She replied, “It’s my HALF favorite.” :)
  • 10/12/22 – Abigail and I were playing soccer in the backyard this morning, and she scolded me: “Don’t kick Daddy’s grass!!” I guess she can tell how much he cares about the lawn :)
