Abigail Brooklyn Savannah school

Early March 2019

March was another good but busy month. For whatever reason, I took a bunch of pictures this month, so I’m going to split it up into two posts. This one will cover March 1st-15th. Here’s the recap:

It rained a a little bit on our walk home from school on March 1st. Brooklyn shared her umbrella with Elaina, one of our neighbors :)

Abigail has now figured out how this giraffe toy works. She had fun pushing the giraffe down and making the balls pop up inside!

March 3rd – Sunday afternoon selfie with my sweet girl!

Abigail enjoys playing with these wind-up cars too!

Brooklyn still loves to draw, and it has made Savannah interested in drawing too. This was one night after supper. The girls have had to start drawing at the kitchen table instead of the coffee table because Abigail likes to steal markers and crayons if she can reach them :)

“I want to make my PB&J, Momma!”

There’s usually a mess to clean up afterward, but she gets the job done!

March 5th was a chilly day outside, so I bundled Abigail up before we walked to school that afternoon :)

When we got to the school, Savannah tucked her baby doll under the blanket so it would stay warm too :)

During the first week of March, Mill Creek celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America. Brooklyn got to try green eggs and ham! She said she liked it :)

Brooklyn hasn’t ever gotten hooked on Dr. Seuss books (although we have a lot of them and she asks me to read them sometimes, they aren’t her favorite). But that week, I caught her reading one all by herself up in the playroom!

Dr. Seuss books are definitely great for early readers! Brooklyn was so proud of herself that she read several pages all by herself!

She even took her book to school the next day (March 7th), and Mrs. Patterson let her read to the class :)

Savannah enjoys pushing her stuffed animals around in her baby doll stroller. She is also good about letting Abigail use it too!

Sweet baby girl :)

Another cold day (March 7th) – the cold weather didn’t bother us too much on our afternoon walks to school most of the time. (I preferred the cold over the super hot weather in August!). As long as we wore enough layers, we stayed plenty warm. I think there was only one or two days that we changed to car line due to cold weather.

We always get compliments on the girls’ sock monkey hats. Rae Rae even ordered Abigail one this winter so she wouldn’t be left out ;)

For several days in a row, Savannah wanted to bring her “doggy on a string” and walk him beside the stroller on our way to and from school. For a used toy that cost $1, that dog has been well loved and a favorite around our house!

Brooklyn’s class went to the spring book fair on March 8th, so I took Savannah and Abigail up there to meet the class in the library. Brooklyn picked out a PJ Masks book, and Savannah chose a Pete the Cat book. I enjoyed reading Brooklyn’s book to some of the kids before it was time for them to go.

That afternoon we made a chocolate cake to serve at lunch on Sunday when everyone would be coming over to our house to eat. Brooklyn and Savannah are big helpers when it comes to stirring the batter and licking the spoon!

The girls don’t ask to play with Playdoh much anymore, but they did on this particular afternoon. (Not that I’m complaining…it is kind of a mess to clean up!)

Savannah’s Pete the Cat book was a story about Pete and his family going camping. Pete left a s’more out for “Big Foot” overnight and the next morning, the s’more was gone! ;) So, of course, Brooklyn was inspired write her own note to Big Foot and leave some Fun Dip outside on the back patio to see if it was gone the next day. Her note said: “Dear Big Foot, I hope you like the Fun Dip. XOXOXOXOXO.” Sure enough, the Fun Dip was gone the next morning!! (But I made Travis tell her that HE ate it…haha. I was afraid she would want to leave something out for Big Foot every night for the next month otherwise!!).

The girls are never tired enough to take a nap on Sunday afternoon UNTIL we get into the car to drive back to the church building around 4 or 4:30 PM. Of course!

Paw and Rae Rae came up for the afternoon/evening on March 11th, and Savannah was excited to show them how well she was riding her bike!

The main reason they came was to watch Brooklyn perform in the PTA meeting at school that night. Brooklyn’s class along with a few other classes were going to be singing several songs in Spanish. The PTA meeting was “Around the World” themed, so after the performance, we were able to visit tables that were set up representing all the different countries that Mill Creek students are from. We got to try all kinds of new foods, and it was amazing to see how many countries were represented. Mill Creek is definitely a very diverse school.

At the beginning of the meeting, they announced some winners in the Reflections art contest that Brooklyn entered last fall. I had no idea they were going to do this! Brooklyn “won” an award in the visual arts category for her age group. I’m not sure if she actually won, or if it was just a participation award, but it was exciting nonetheless. Too bad she was backstage getting ready to sing, so she couldn’t actually come out and accept her award when they called her name.

But I definitely made sure to get a picture afterward! :)

As for the performance itself, it was PRICELESS! The kids sang 4 songs, and Travis and I had the biggest cheesy smiles on our faces the whole time. I told Travis afterward that it was like the epitome of what I’d always imagined that it was like to be a parent. “Beaming with pride” – I now know what that means firsthand! I don’t know if it will be as exciting for all the future PTA performances we will sit through, but I’m sure the first one will always stick out in my mind. Brooklyn did a great job! Paw and Rae Rae said Savannah (who was sitting beside them) was singing the songs too…haha. We’d been practicing at home, so Savannah had learned some of the words!

This was right after they walked out onto the stage. I could tell Brooklyn was nervous but excited. The other girls standing with her are Madison, Ella, and Sarah (also from Mrs. Patterson’s class).

Getting ready to start!

I apologize for the picture overload, but it was just so cute! I can’t help myself :)

There was only one class from each grade in the show, so Mrs. Patterson’s class was the only kindergarten class. I was so glad that Mrs. Patterson volunteered her class to participate!

“These are the months of the year in Spanish!”

This was the face she made when everyone would clap after they finished a song :)

…and this was her “I’m not sure about everyone looking at me” face! I can totally relate to that ;)

It was a great night and one that I’m sure I will always remember :)

A little outdoor time on March 12th after school!

Abigail discovered our Little Tikes slide and had fun climbing up and going down by herself.

Whee!!

Abigail has been our first baby to really LOVE teethers. I don’t remember the other girls really using them much. This pink one is Abigail’s favorite…she loves to chew on it! We try to keep it in the freezer whenever she’s not using it.

What a cute little unicorn!

On March 13th, we walked to the neighborhood playground after school for the girls to burn off some energy and play with their friends.

That night was Abigail’s first time to go to Bible class! I think Daddy was counting down the days until he could concentrate in class again; I felt a little more sentimental about it since she is our last baby ;)

The toddler class is pretty big right now – I think there are 8 kids including Abigail. So she had plenty of friends to keep her company. We heard she did great that night! Apparently the only time she cried was when Aunt Vicki tried to take a Bible away from her…haha. Aunt Vicki decided that she could just keep it ;) Sounds just like our Peapod!

Travis let Brooklyn ride her scooter to school for the first time ever on March 14th. She was so excited! He said it went pretty well other than she fell a couple of times on the way. (She was fine.) I’m sure the people that saw her got a big kick out of the cute little girl wearing her Dory helmet to school. Travis just carried the scooter and helmet home after he dropped her off.

Our playroom is still a work in progress (at least as far as the wall decor and organization), but I love how the little grocery store turned out! Travis and Cici built it, and Cici sewed the awning out of the same fabric that she made the window valence out of (Hungry Little Caterpillar). I think it turned out great!

March 15th – Abigail had fun riding in the wagon around the patio!

Notes and Quotes from Early March:

  • 3/5/19 – We bought some Rice Krispy treats at the grocery store last week, and the girls have loved them. They aren’t typically a snack we buy very often. Savannah has been calling them, “Rice Frisbee Treats!” :)
  • This morning, we were talking about how Abigail used to be in my tummy, and Savannah wondered, “Mommy, did you eat her?”
  • Savannah is very worried about driving a car one day. She says she doesn’t know where it will take her…haha. She says she doesn’t want to drive herself at college…she wants me to drive her around. I told her she might change her mind by the time that day comes!
  • 3/15/19 – Abigail’s 12th tooth is coming in. It’s the bottom left tooth (out of front 4 on the bottom).
  • Abigail has found her belly button this week! She is constantly looking for it and inspecting it/poking it when we are getting her dressed.
