Well, Friday was my first day back at work since February, and I survived! It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be. We weren’t super busy, so that helped. I was able to use an empty room when I needed to pump, and that also gave me a chance to check on Mr. Mom and Brooklyn at home. Yep, Travis was her babysitter for the day since it was his off day. His sister Melissa also came over to hang out and help for the day, so that was nice. Brooklyn was surprisingly very well behaved all day except for about 30 minutes of hysterical crying. She decided to go on a diet because she didn’t want to drink from a bottle, but apparently she wasn’t too upset about it. (She did eat really good when I got home though!). Yay for a good first day away from Mommy!
This Friday, Mom is going to babysit while I’m working since Travis will be at work too. Maybe she’ll have better luck with the bottle than Travis did. I’m planning to work one day a week from here on out just to keep my foot in the door and my license current. Plus, the furlough (which was supposed to start in April I think) is now supposedly starting in July, so Travis will be off every Friday (without pay!) at least until the end of September. The extra money will cover at least part of his decreased income :)
Yesterday was Travis’s 27th birthday. He celebrated by getting his annual performance review at work first thing in the morning (ha!), and he was busy the rest of the day after that. So much for taking it easy on your birthday! Luckily, he got to see this sweet girl when he got home from his crazy day…
Happy birthday Daddy!
Speaking of Brooklyn, she’s really growing and changing! Just in the last week, she’s turned into a thumb sucker, rolled from her back to her tummy multiple times, and truly found her “voice”…and it’s not a quiet one!
For a while now, she’s been trying to put her fists in her mouth without much success. She sucked her thumb one time about a month ago I guess, but this week she’s found it again! It’s usually the left thumb, and I think the habit might be here to stay. Apparently I sucked my left thumb too, so it must be genetic :)
Lately she had also been getting really good at rolling to her side from her back, but she never rolled all the way over to her tummy. Well, Tuesday afternoon, I was in the kitchen, and she was on her activity mat. I walked over to check on her one minute, and she was on her side. Then, after a few minutes I heard her fussing, and she was completely on her tummy! Way to go Brooklyn! She kept doing it all evening, and she’s gotten pretty good at it. The only problem is that once she rolls to her belly, she gets stuck because she can’t roll back. Hopefully sometime soon she’ll master the art of rolling from her belly to her back so I don’t have to flip her back over every time!
Here’s the video to prove it. I was so proud of her that you would have thought she’d graduated from college or something :)
Brooklyn has also added a few new sounds to her repertoire. In addition to cooing, squealing, giggling, and grunting, she is now groaning and squeaking. She can be really loud sometimes! Yesterday at Publix I think she was the loudest shopper there. We were getting lots of attention as other people passed us in the aisles…
So funny! I think she was telling me how much better Publix is than Wal-Mart. Or how much she loves using coupons. Something like that…
Well, I guess that’s all that’s been happening around here. When you check back next week, Brooklyn will probably be walking! Just kidding…but it does seem like she’s growing that fast…
Hope you’re having an awesome Thursday! :)

Love that talking at Publix. It’s going to be a crazy time at Fripp. Hope we can get her in the pool with her life jacket.
Mom said you got a big kick out of that video! :)
It’s just amazing how many new things she is doing just in the last 2 weeks! Slow down, girl!! (like that works…) HA! It’s so fun to see her learning new things. She’ll be making tracks across the room before long, so look out Gabby and Felix!
I know! Now I understand why parents say they aren’t ready for their kids to grow up!!
I’m confident I’ve never been so enthralled by watching a baby roll onto her belly. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, practically biting my nails, cheering her on. I don’t know what’s happened to me.
You go, Brooklyn! You’ll be an acrobat in no time.
Haha Steve…that’s hilarious! :)
