When I look back at my calendar from the month of September, there isn’t just a whole lot to report. I came home on September 1st after spending a week in the hospital recovering from 2 surgeries and getting IV antibiotics. Abigail was discharged from the NICU on September 12th. And between the two of us, we had A TON of appointments to go to that month. Chiropractor, OB, infectious disease, ophthalmology, pediatrician, lactation—-it was at least 10 appointments, and maybe more than that. It took me several weeks to start getting my energy back after coming home basically zapped. I also dealt with mastitis and thrush that month as well. Honestly, it felt like I was never going to get better at times. Every time I took a step forward, I seemed to take 2 steps back. Finally, by the end of the month, I felt like things were headed in the right direction, but it was definitely a slow process. September was basically a month spent trying to get our feet back under us and adjusting to having Abigail home.
Loved these flowers from Tyler and Alisha :)
Brooklyn mailed me these pictures from Paw and Rae Rae’s house. They were waiting in the mailbox when I got home from the hospital :)
Gabby definitely missed me!
Here’s Abigail in her crib on the night she came home from the hospital. So tiny!
Brooklyn and Savannah held Abigail for the first time on September 13th, the day after she came home :)
With Savannah, it was more like “balancing” Abigail rather than holding her ;)
I think she looks like her daddy in this picture!
Abigail’s first appointment with our pediatrician was on Friday, September 15th. She weighed basically the same as she did 3 days earlier in the NICU, but Dr. Dudley wasn’t too worried since the weights were taken on different scales. Overall, it was a good checkup, and Dr. Dudley said she was doing great!
Poor Abigail…. :)
Savannah was very interested in her little sister!
We quickly learned that she was pretty good at wiggling her arms out of the swaddle :)
Rae Rae and Paw came up to take the girls back to Trussville when I started running another fever mid-month (I think it was due to mastitis), and they got to see Abigail for a few minutes while they were here…
This was Paw’s first time to hold her!
I can’t even put into words how big of a help our parents were to us during August and September. Paw, Rae Rae, and Cici are the main reasons we survived those first few weeks of craziness…I’m not sure what we would have done without them!
See what I mean about wiggling out of the swaddle? :)
We have a picture like this with Daddy and each of the girls when they were babies. So sweet!
First bath at home! She didn’t seem to mind it :)
Rae Rae brought Brooklyn and Savannah home on September 27th….Brooklyn was excited to see Abigail again!
We also learned that Abigail is the queen of sleeping with her eyes half open. Gotta keep her eye on the rest of us crazies! :)
Since we didn’t go out and do much during September other than going to appointments, the girls spent lots of time coloring…
September 29th was my first full day by myself with all 3 girls. We survived, and it wasn’t (quite) as exhausting as I thought it might be :)
Our month summed up in two words: lots of SNUGGLES and CUDDLES :)
Quotes and Notes from September:
- Savannah says “Thankoo!” for thank you. It’s really cute! Her speech has exploded since Abigail was born. It seemed like she came home from Paw and Rae Rae’s talking so much more than she was before.
- We had Abigail’s newborn photo session with Carla on September 30th. When we were finished and getting in the car, I commented that Abigail looked like a little angel in her pictures. Brooklyn replied, “But she doesn’t have wings!”
- We asked Savannah that night, “Savannah, when are you going to learn how to use the big girl potty?” Her response: “One day!”
On to a summary of October!
